So, I was interested in already starting a job hunt for jobs back in Canada. I have 5 years of teaching experience with a Communications degree. I was quite surprised to see my degree on the list, as I've seen several CEOs and successful people with CMNS degrees. However, when they mentioned the pyramid scheme thing... I was like.. hey, that's true.

I read the first one and already it's idiotic.
These kind of articles are funny, but not when the guy gives himself a superiority above things that he is very wrong about.

The museum jobs for example. Just because you only see one, doesn't mean there is only one. The London National Gallery, for example, has a set of doors that are closed off to public, where acres and acres more of tall massive building is, where all the research goes into palaeontology, history, biology etc. Thousands of which work there.

Also 'will do jack shit in the real world' - This only applies to careers, which he is wrong about anyway, he simply just cannot see the opportunities. Possibly because he doesn't have those degrees.

A large chunk of people get Degrees because they want to. And the way it changes most people is pretty darn important for the real world. (Most decent people anyway, not those ones that get a degree because they don't want to get a job, they just continue getting drunk).

Edit - Latin is technically the official language of Vatican City. Also Latin will put you way ahead of others in terms of learning other languages such as French, Spanich, Italian - knowing any second language or more is constantly useful for careers. Latin is also useful in Law and Medics.

Film can expand your knowledge of the technology used, script writing etc etc, giving a massive range of jobs that aren't 'Hollywood', since Film = hollywood to this guy.

Etc etc.

Point is, They should get someone less ignorant to make these things in order to be properly funny. There was a cool website example I had... what was it... *rubs chin*

My degree is not on there.

But it's still pretty worthless.

No degree is useless, it just depends on what you do with it (and with the time you were at Uni).

I dunno, I do sort of hyperventilate when I think about getting a job back home and how my ability to write a Marxist analysis of The Super Mario Bros. probably isn't a marketable skill.

Given the oversupply of university degrees it is now necessary for those of us who want to live a middle/upper middle class life to think outside of the uni framework. Professional designations is a better path for most. My cousin just finished an 18 month MRI tech program at SAIT in Calgary and landed a job @ 65k + full benefits (starting salary).

A communications degree isn't useful in the economy. Nor is sociology, philosophy etc. I enjoyed my undergrad experience but it won't make me any money.
