| If anyone has any news regarding the EPIK situation i would very much appreciate it. |
Well, nobody here is an EPIK expert but I might be able to help shed some light on the situation. According to my recruiter, and Will (another recruiter who posts here), all the regular EPIK positions have been filled.
SMOE is still doing some interviewing, but will fill soon.
Since you have heard nothing, it could indicate that you were not placed. You still have options available to you, though. There are & will be several drop outs and that is why they have a reserve of people. So, if you really want in you should let your recruiter know to tell EPIK you are willing to be placed ANYWHERE and you are completely flexible in location. The downside of this? Well... you'll be placed wherever there is an available spot! Could be anywhere...
Here is what I would suggest you do:
1) Ask your recruiter if you have been placed. Inform him that you are aware most people have been placed and all positions seem to be filled.
2) If you want, tell him you are flexible enough to be placed anywhere an open position is available.
3) If you want, tell him you'd like to be placed first in the EPIK February intake. This means EPIK will place you immediately in the Feb intake of applicants, the only thing you will need to resubmit is the criminal background check, apostilled.
4) Consider GEPIK, Direct hire public schools, or hagwons. |

Thanks for the advice,
I have already said that I would be completely flexible on location, i figured that this could help to get a placement. I received this on the 30th of June,
'Sorry for the delay in confirmation on your placement location.
I'm still waiting to hear from the coordinator on this. I should have an update for you very soon.
It's a busy time for EPIK and I think they are quite snowed under hence the delay.
Anyway, all of your visa documents were fine so everything will be OK!
All you need in order to pick up your visa from the Korean Embassy in London now is your appointment package (to be mailed out to you in July) and your passport.'
I take it that this is a good sign, but I cant help but be a little pessimistic as i have still not had a official guarantee!!!

For those of us that just recently found out in the giant notification wave, EPIK emailed us personally. You can see a copy of that email a page or two back. There was one for SMOE, and another for just the regular EPIK, but it was the same email with the name aside. I suspect that if you have been placed you should have received an email too, with the email you had filed on your application. It is also possible they are still informing people in bursts.
If I were you, I'd just nag your recruiter again in a few days.. perhaps on the 8th or 9th. Don't feel bad about repeatedly asking... it is their job and why you went through them, after all. Hopefully you find out one way or another soon, suspense stinks!
When I asked my recruiter questions, such as my specific placement location, he never took longer than a few days to get back to me with the information. Often within 24 hours, and I know he has hundreds of people he's dealing with simultaneously. |

I'm in the same boat, man. I've been told a week ago that I'm being recommended for Daejeon, but I haven't seen those official e-mails people have been talking about. My recruiter replied to an e-mail of mine about taking a TEFL course online and he didn't say anything about "if" I was to go to Daejeon, but just said that "I will send you more official e-mails in the future." So I have no idea what that means.
Oh yeah, thanks for the updates on this guys! |

Just another heads up to join the increasingly eccentric Facebook group EPIK FALL 2010 now has 143 members and is spinning off in a very entertaining direction around the secretive and not-at-all nourishing star that is EPIK/SMOE.
There's even more neurosis, worry and counselling there than here as well as links galore to interesting Korean websites and news articles. Join the discussions and tell us who you are, where in Korea you intend to work and why you're emigrating in the first place... as well as defend/openly hate on K-Pop or try to convince a recalcitrant Irishman that Lost in Translation is a good film.
There's a really friendly vibe in the group, too. Talk is currently moving towards developing codes for orientation. To say nothing of Operation Tears of a Clown or the develpment of the world's first TEFL murder mystery novel |

OK, you twisted my arm. I created a fake Facebook account so I could join, lol. I don't want to use my real last name because then it would be a repeat of last time. I'd get friend requests every day and it drives me nuts! That's why I disabled my old account.
I somehow deleted all of my personal pictures though, so I don't even have an avatar! I'll have to dig out the camera, I'm sure there's one on the memory card there.
Mr. BlackMoon, awaiting confirmation! |

150 MEMBERS!!
One thing we seem to be sticking to, which I'm glad of, is keeping all the cities' applicants together. What I'd really like is for the group to remain the only one for the autumn intake. It'd be nice to have everyone within pestering distance in one small, Facebook room.
Also, I tend to get bored and fidgety and that's when the random links start getting shared
If you haven't yet joined, get up on that bitch ASAP yo. If you're a member, post about how brilliant the group is and we can get more people to join |

Just heard from my recruiter. Apparently my papers have yet to be sent out because posts are filling up. I have been placed on a WAIT LIST. My recruiter wanted to reconfirm that I'm available to work anywhere, which I am. They also wanted to know if I could start on a later date, Sep 26, Oct 26 or Nov 26. Also yes.
I imagine there will be more wait list notifications happening now.
I only ever had a provisional acceptance from EPIK. I never got the Congratulations e-mail or anything like that, only notification from my recruiter that I passed my interview, which I took on June 6.
Good luck to us all. |

You twisted my arm. I mainly use Facebook to look at the group now, none of the other rubbish haha!
Definitely a good place to share your fears, confusion and "When the hell will I get my contract?!?" feelings as well as find out more about Korea, K-pop and the 'upstairs' area of your Korean studio flat! |
