I finally got my feedback and am surprised at hoe low my marks are, granted I did a big no-no by telling them their grades ahead of time, so classes with lower grades gave me low feedback, but I'm upset that it seems that the students didn't even bother to answer questions.

In three of my classes, I never missed a class, and one of the questions is about cancelling classes. Some students said that I missed tons of classes and never bothered to make them up.

Seems like they're getting revenge for their bad grades.

I've asked my director here what the average is for feedback scores, but he pleads innocent and says he has no idea. Anyone know what's normal? 70? 80? 90?

The avg feedback score at our university is around 80. I do the same thing as you do, provide my students with their grades ahead of time - this allows me to deal with any issues immediately and ensures that my marking sheets are error free.

At my school the average evaluation grade is 87.7 across all departments. In the English department (apparently the lowest ranking) teachers might get some heat if they score below 80.

I introduced an in-class easy reading segment (about 20 mins out of a weekly 90 min class) in all freshman English classes last semester, so I was very interested to get student feedback on reading time. Out of 200 students across 10 classes (it has been an overtime frenzy!) there were only about 4 or 5 comments about the in-class reading.

Next semester I'm thinking of introducing a pre- and post-class survey of my own.

That's good to know. A couple teachers I talked to at my uni got 90s. I think next semester I will make the class easier and not tell them their grades before they give me my feedback.

If 3 people said you missed class even though you didn't, your employer should throw out all 3 of those students' answers to every question. But we know your employer will probably never do that.

As a general rule, I don't give grades ahead of time. One of my coworkers did, but that was because he had to leave early because his daughter was getting married. He sat down with every student over a week and gave them their grades. It seem to work out well for him.

I had about five complaints about grades, four of which I dismissed because their grade reflected what they deserved. I bumped one student from a B+ to an A. That's it.

I'm curious to get my results (if they ever give it to us) and see how bad I did (I'm sure I'll get crappy scores). They aren't really as accurate as Koreans would make them out to be.

I had 6 or 8 complaints. I changed about half of those and then further bumped up four other students from a B to an A.

Not 3 students, but three classes that said I missed a class. Sigh, live and learn I suppose

Finally? That's pretty fast to get student feedback, in my experience anyway.

After final exam week we have approx. a week to input the grades into the system and hand in the master copy (hard copy) to the administrators. Then the students have a grace period to request changes to their grades - usually 2 or 3 days. Then grades are finalized in the system.

Now, for evaluations students must complete the online evaluation before they can access their grades. So giving their grades before hand is out the question - the method of grading at my uni is a nightmare and takes so long.

I think our evaluations are out of 4.5 - only one class gave me below 4 (3.9) but that was because only 3 people were given A's so that was expected - they didn't speak and just relied on the written exams to get by.

Now, regards to comments - we only have access to very limited information on that and it is all in korean - hit the google translator and get a very rough idea what comments were given for each class but we dont have access to all students comments.
