You don't "need" to do a TOEFL/TEFL program at all. There is no such thing as a "half-decent" one by Korean standards unless you want to fork over and arm and a leg for a real one the CELTA.
If you just want it to pad your resume, then just make one up, call it "Hyper-Global TEFL Certificate" and be done with it. I have a legitimate TESOL certificate and having it on my resume has been a plus in my experience, but they've never asked to see it. Even if they did, there is no standardization or accreditation so you can just print one up from photoshop.
If you want to take a course to "learn how to teach ESL", then its a waste of money. The stuff you learn in a TESOL/TEFL course has zero bearing on Korean Hogwon teaching. |

don't quite follow. Have you been guaranteed a university position if you get a TEFL certificate, or has someone told you uni jobs are available to TEFL certificate holders? At our school, and (I think) most others, non-MA/MEd holders are in the minority. |

well, actually was just told that it's beneficial to the resume when seeking out teaching positions, especially in a university type setting is all...I've been told there are cheap ones available online... |

Manchester University offers something you may want to look at. DELTA - 500 pounds. I think it is Manchester anyway. |

You need to get a CELTA and 1200 hours of post CELTA experience before you can get a DELTA. |

They're not wrong, but you might want to talk to some universities about this before putting down good money. Like I said, most (though not all) of the time it's a Masters degree that gets university jobs. Even a BA + CELTA would be stretching it at many universities. To see what I mean, check out the websites of universities - these tend to list their foreign teachers, and the credentials they hold.
You'll certainly find BA+TEFL teachers in universities, but not many of them. |

I have a BA + CELTA, but I think the reason I was hired (3 years ago) was my 3 years experience teaching in Korea. |

I have a CELTA, but I don't think it was a factor for me getting hired. People in Korea don't really seem to care about certs, even universities. |

I have a CELTA too, but most schools just require you to smile and look pretty, who cares if you have little or no language awareness. They could really give a rats ass if you have any sort of teaching cert. as far as extra money is concerned. If you go to China, you could get more money based upon your certification from what I've seen. |
