After an hour and a half on the phone with customer service I think I figured it all out.
If you setup your battle.net account in Korea, you are locked to the Korean region. It doesn't matter if you changed the website to US location or not. Blizzard's servers automatically setup your region based on your IP address. So, even though I have a US battle.net account, with US address and US credit card, I processed all that information from my computer in Korea, so according to Battle.net, I'm in the Korean region.
Those of you who setup your Battle.net account while you were in the US or EU or wherever, you are locked into that region so you can play fine.
Now, Technical support is aware of the issue. They are working on making a fix for it. I was told that I do not have to change my region, buy a new copy of the game, or anything like that. I was told they are working to fix the issue so that people who are outside of the US region, with a US version of the game, can play on the US server. |
Like I said in the 2nd post of this thread, if it works like WoW, you cant create US or Euro accounts from here, period. Switching the region of the website makes no difference, the actual IP filter (not the site re-direct) is applied when you create the account. Hopefully they can fix your account, but for people here without a Battlenet account yet, they will need to have it set up from a country on their NA server list.
I used a VPN 3 years ago setting up a WoW account from here. It went through fine and I played for a week, until I woke up banned one morning for "circumventing the registration security." So be careful with VPNs and Blizzard.
Playing online games from this country can be such a pain sometimes. |

| Buy the SEA version. If you bought the US version and expect to play in SEA, then you are doing it wrong. The SEA/ANZ game is $80, but after 60 days you will be able to play both on SEA and US servers (which makes up for the extra $20). I registered, downloaded it without any problem, and immediately got online. |

Korea is a seperate region from the SEA servers. It has it's own servers so there could still potentially be problems with doing that. If it works for you though, I might try it. |

I got a friend in the US create a new Battle.net account for me. Then I called Blizzard and they transferred the Starcraft 2 game to the new battle.net account.
Works perfectly. |

For what it's worth, my girlfriend and I both have U.S. battle.net accounts, signed up for in the U.S., play World of Warcraft on U.S. servers, and pay for them with U.S. credit cards.
However, we've been unable to purchase a U.S. digital download of Starcraft 2 via the Battle.net store. It keeps giving us errors: "Unable to process, please contact Blizzard support". I've been briefly exchanging emails with a rep who is looking into the problem. Sounds like their system is red flagging *some* accounts that are trying to download the U.S. client from abroad.
Had this same problem when I switched credit cards on Battle.net while abroad. |

I set up an account on the US server from here after trying out a lot of different options. Ultimately I ended up using a residential address in the EU, US server and Korean credit card. After that, no problem at all and I got to pay the very favorable (compared to EU) US price. With such a setup, the account naturally got suspended after first use (playing from Korea) but Blizzard provides a very simple and quick verification (just make sure you remember your answer to the "Secret QUestion").
Occasionally I still end up on the Korean Blizzard or Battle.net page (but that also happens with Google, Microsoft and other location aware sites) but there's no problem with navigating away from it.
Had I known that there would be a problem for others I'd have made a record of the steps. Now all I can say is that it's possible.
Does anyone know how to make SC2 recognize my Geforce 310M (Laptop) video card? The standard resolution (1280x800) doesn't look so nice since my screen is 1366x768 and editing the .ini file doesn't seem to help. |

Am I the only one here that has a US digital copy that works? I was a beta tester and deleted the beta version of the game. Then through my US bnet account I downloaded the game last night and added it to my bnet account.
I use my NA account. The same BNET account I use for WoW on American servers.
I paid with my credit card.
I am NOT using a Korean based bnet account. I have one but I'm not using it for sc2.
I can log on and play league/custom games and campaigns just fine. I use windows 7.
You guys sure you aren't missing anything here? |
Mine is fine too. not sure why people have so many problems |

It's download only in the ROK- no retail copies at all, so you'd have to order it from overseas. |
