I am looking to move on from my current job, I know this may not be in Korea as they are not required to give me a letter of release, and my contract stipulates I give 2 months notice. I would rather do this than just take off but am concerned that I just might get screwed over once I give the notice, i.e. they'll try and can me and kick me out of the apt. the next day. Has anyone had any experience with this, is the 2 month clause legally enforceable if it is spelled out in the contract?

What you want to do if you really want to leave is give the notice.

Type up a paper and give it to your boss as written notice. Make copies and deliver one to immigration along with your contract; do this in person just as a courtesy visit so there is no uncertainty with them that you are not a nice person who is legally and professionally leaving their job.

Now the possibilities begin.

Your boss can freak out and try to fire you. If he does keep in mind that you just saw immigration and they think you are nicely quitting. You can also remind him that he has to give you 30 days notice ( although if you are less than six months I am not sure whether this applies or what sort of notice you have to give either).

If you really want to leave isn't thirty days better than sixty? He may say that it's okay. In this event great. A letter of release may be wanted. If he doesn't give you one at least immigration should be on your side.

I'm not sure what is happening at immigration as far as releasing teachers under a certain length of teaching time. I while ago I heard immigration wasn't accepting releases unless you worked at least a mininum of however many months.

Throughout all of this never once get angry and always be the nice guy even if your boss is a wanker and immigration is snotty. It should make it easier for you.

Great, thanks, for the advice. However, when you say I should take the notice to immigration where and to whom would I take it exactly? Is it something I would need them to file away in my record?
