I'm only asking this question because everybody's situation is slightly different and I want to be sure I get the best info.

My contract (at a public elementary school) expires in mid December.

1. Can I know with any degree of certainty whether or not they'll give me the money for my ticket? Or will they require I buy it myself and then they'll reimburse me? If heard it both ways plus I know policies change.

2. If I do have to buy a departure ticket to prove to the school I'm leaving, are ticket refundable and/or changeable nowadays? It's been a long time since I've bought an airline ticket.

3 Assuming I leave but don't go all the way back to the US (which I don't want to do)... how can I re-enter Korea? I've read something about just coming in and at the airport getting some kind of automatic 'temporary' visa...or something like that. I'd like to be in a situation to stay here for a couple of months while I (a) perhaps look for another job and/or (b) do some work on the internet to make some money

So.....if a person is a US citizen (like me) and is NOT a teacher......how do we hang around in Korea? On renewed tourist visas? And do visa runs?

Thanks,
Art

I can only answer question #3. You tell immigration as you leave Korea that your visa is over and then you can re-enter Korea visa-free for 90 days.

You mean go the airport but don't get on the plane?

Or tell them that as I leave and say, "I'll be back!" At which time I get the 90 tourist visa.

Just wanna clarify that Smile

Exit Korea - hand in your ARC on the way out. Since you are from the US and may have a multi-entry permit, make sure they cancel it as you leave.

When you return you will be given a visa waiver (B1) stamp that is good for a 90 day stay. If you want to stay longer you will need to make a repeat visa run and get another 90 days when you return again.
