I'm sure the answer to this will be no, but just thought I'd ask to be sure.

It seems that all the manufacturers of appliances (I'm getting ready to buy a refrigerator) have completely different models that they sell in Korea than the models that they sell in other countries.

And hence, since the models they sell in Korea aren't sold in any other country, there is no English language manual available for any refrigerator model that you can buy in Korea. Please correct me if I'm wrong about this and I will be pleasantly surprised.

Usually, they sell the same thing overseas (if it is samsung or LG anyway) and just give it a different number. Find the corresponding same model, if it is a fridge, you should be able to tell by appearance and features and then you will have your manual.

Do you need a fridge manual?

Anyway, for other electronics I've looked at the model number. eg. Samsung ML-1641K. You type that sucker into google "+manual" usually you get something. Or go to the manufacturers website in US/UK/India (English countries) and try to see a downloadable manual.

Or use advanced google search for the model number with filetype "PDF".

This sounds viable. I'll give it a try. Regarding googling on a model number though, when I've typed in a model number for a Korean model, I've never found any reference to it in the English world.

Certainly, it's not as important as more complicated to operate appliances like my Magic covection/steam/grill/microwave combo oven. Still, I like to find out about things if possible.

I don't know where to get manuals from (but i did see a website that had 1000s of them in PDF format once).

Here's what i've tried over the years, to varying levels of success.

1. Scan the manual that you DO have. Run it though a good OCR program that has Korean recognition (Omnipage works on Korean). Then run it though google translate or babelfish.

2. If it's something simple like a thermostat, washing machien, air conditioner, etc. Take a photo of the control panel that has the info you need to translate. Print it out. Ask a Korean friend to give you a quick translation of what the words are. If you ask someone who actually uses such a device (e.g. a washing machine) they can usually also give you a recommendation on what settings to use.

But like someone else said, if it's something that's also exported, Google the model number and brand name. You might luck out.
