Anyway I have Windows 7 ultimate from yongsan on an ex display model laptop I bought there recently. Actually I think it;s used as it is a USA model, so I think someone sold it to them, as why would they use a USA model for display in Korea...?
Well, loving the Win 7 ultimate anyhow.
I think it's a pirate (obviously - it's Yongsan) as the genuine Windows authentication thing pops up once per session, but goes away easily with one click.
The bizarro thing though is that I can still download things from MS like MSE, which says it required verification of GENUINE Windows 7 and when it checked (without me evenentering a verification code!) it, it said verification was succesful and let me download! Updates, the lot.
I don't get it! It's not supposed to let me download stuff from Ms if I don't have genuine W7!!!
Not that I'm complaining though! |

It is possible to verify it as genuine using a key generator (or some such, I don't know what it is called). The version of W7 I downloaded for my desk top had a little program you run that verified it.
For my old laptop, I had my local computer guy install W7 for me (cost 25K), when he upgraded the HDD. It was verified as well. I never get warning messages or have trouble with updates. |

Nice.
You'd have thought MS would have made it tougher to do this sort of thing, that's all... Like I said, I'm not complaining, just kind of baffled. |

M$ is letting updates through for now on pirated copies of Vista and 7. They got a lot of flack for it with their policies towards pirated copies of XP.
My guess is with the shift to mobile computer, the more windows users the merrier as it keeps their install base high. A computer with a hacked windows is better than a MAC or Linux based pc. |

| So, the OS is in Korean? Perhaps there is some confusion as to what the popup message is saying? I have no idea about your Korean ability, but it may not be a "your copy is counterfeit" message, as that would be accompanied by black background screens and an hourly (or every 2 hours?!) shutdown. Doesn't seem like your copy is illegit, going by what you have been saying... |

Are you sure it's not a legit copy? In the past I've bought two different laptops in Yongsan and both came with genuine windows. In my experience laptops typically come with OEM versions of windows. |

unless you bought it used, the copy is probably legit. |
