Well, my gf's laptop crapped out - it won't start up at all. This is after I replaced her LCD screen about 6 months ago, if anyone remembers. There's no point in taking it to a service centre- it'll probably be cheaper to just buy a new one. I saw the X340 for W599,999 at Homeplus last week and still think it's on "sale". This thing is tiny and light, even thinner than the mac air, but with less power under the hood I think
Can anyone tell me if that's a good price? I think it's exactly what she needs, as she had her eye on a netbook but mentioned the screen was too small. |

| Well, the price in the states is in the $500-600 range, so yeah, it's a perfectly good deal for that machine. |

Care to give specifics? It isn't likely to be a problem with the computer itself.
PCs aren't like cars, where there are some known duds, that everyone knows to avoid. PCs are generally made from the same parts. Some parts are higher spec, but they are all of about the same quality.
The PC market is so competitive that companies that produce shoddy product go out of business fast. MSI have been around for a while and get good reviews, so I highly doubt there is a problem with the machine itself. |

| It only has Intel 4500 graphics. Not sufficient for HD content or any 3D gaming. That might be what his friend was referring to |

| if I remember correctly the chip set that that computer uses isn't really good, or something to do with the drivers. I think my friend had trouble with online video rather than with video files. If this is a common problem then it will be written about some where on the web and can be found. If it is an isolated problem, then a search won't turn up anything. At any rate it is worthwhile to do a bit of research. |

Doesn't it have HDMI out? It should be able to handle HD. It definitely would be able to with the right codecs. I've had HD running on a first gen Atom processor. |

While the X340 performed well during everyday tasks, such as writing in Microsoft Word 2007, surfing the Web with multiple tabs open in Firefox, and watching a 720p video in Windows Media Player, it had a bit of trouble multitasking. |

Well, we ended up getting it for her. What a great little laptop! Very light and has a big enough screen that it doesn't feel cramped doing work or surfing the web. There was minimal bloatware but I did a fresh install of Win7 anyway. This may have helped with the HD video that I tested and found no problems online and offline. I did read reviews and it seems the only potential problem would be the battery life, but not a huge concern as she usually has it plugged in. Overall it's a great device for websurfing, emailing/word processing, watching videos, and skyping - exactly what she needs.
The sale's on 'till Sept 8th - recommended to anyone who wants something with a little more power than a netbook for the same price |
