As far as I know 2.6m per month is at the high end for a starting salary here.
You are not going to make USD4000 (5m won per month) unless you have been here a number of years and have permanent Residency (F2 status) and the right qualifications.
The 2.6m will include housing so you can expect to save about $US1000 per month comfortably. |
Been here 6 months, don't have F2 or F5, but I do have a good job and average $4000 a month
2.6 mil is good money, however, do a bit of research on Woosong. I've heard mixed reviews about them- I was offered a job and turned it down, due to poor organization even before I got the contract. |

Do you have any other offers you are comparing Woosong against?
If not then i don't know why you haven't already signed and returned the contract. There is nothing in this thread to indicate any major problems there. It has 80 staff. I even talked to the interviewer but I took another job earlier than they could decide.
The interviewer explained many things and he was American. Overall I got a good impression from the place. |

| Were you sent the contract? That's why I didn't sign. It had been nearly 3 weeks since I accepted the job, but they insisted on snail mailing the contract. |

I took a job before they even had time to decide whether or not ti give me a job. I got offered a job the same day they interviewed. They did take a while to intervew me though, I think they emailed me and then interviewed me more than a week later.
The uni accepted at was much quicker than that and gave me just a day to accept or reject. So i went ahead and tried to pressure other schools but they could not decide ealier. I have been here a month and it is great. |

| just got offered 2.6 for woosong with an apartment. Its only 2100 bucks but how much is 2.6 a month in Korea? Is it a good Salary? How would you be able to live? I have absolutely no idea. Please help. I would make up to 4000bucks a month in Japan and felt quite well off. |
4000 in Japan can be spent rather quickly.
The detail I would want to know that you have left blank were the number of hours worked for that pay and over what time period.
Working 10 hours spread over 2 days a week is not the same as working 50 hours a week spread at different times from 9am-9pm 7 days a week.
It would be also good to find out how many hours and when those hours are to be scheduled and if there are any additional "office hours" you are supposed to maintain if it is a truly university based position and not just an institute that has paid for the university name for its institute. |

$4000 is very good money for Japan though. Are you actually earning that much or think that you can earn that much? Just looking at the adverts on the job boards. As for teaching university in Japan, I can only tell you what I heard from the General Job Discussion forum, which is that you'll need publications, an MA, and lots of experience. Knowing Japanese and having connections could also help.
But don't just htink that if you teach uni in Korea, you'll be able to teach uni in Japan. |

yes need to do office hours, plus get an apartment.
4000 bucks in Japan was working 4 days a week high school paid 3200 bucks plus business English pulled in another 1000.
Don't think its possible to replicate easily though I am also fluent in Japanese.
Want to come to Korea for a change and to work at a uni, working on publications only have one hope to get another 2+ this year. |

You should have just said you are wasted out of your mind 24/7, because no furious typing speed could account for the incoherency of your posts. |

Still, sounds like a good deal. All the jobs I've seen for Japan here on Dave's pay much much less. Though were you able to save much? How long have you been in Japan? Fluent in Japanese, that's sure an advantage. I think you should stay in Japan. |
