I'm interested in volunteering but it seems so many volunteer opportunities have to do with teaching English or working with children...not that I hate either, but I get enough of both at my job. Is there any good volunteer work in Seoul that has nothing to do with either of them? |

Contact one of the foreigner help centers.
A) they always need extra help.
B) you will learn more than you ever wanted to about Korea.

There are plenty of opportunities out there that don't involve teaching English, etc. What kind of volunteering are you interested in doing? Send me a PM and I may be able to help you. I know of plenty of places where you can do all kinds of interesting stuff from research to project implementation in all kinds of fields. It's taken me months of searching to find stuff that doesn't involve teaching.
Ttompatz, you've said a couple of times on here about volunteering with foreigner help centres. What exactly did you do? I'm interested in eventually working with refugees/migrants back home and something like that might be really useful experience. Also, as I don't live near a city, when did you do your volunteering? Was it during the day on weekdays or was it on weekends? |

I worked for one in Seoul (lived in Suwon and Bundang).
My office time was usually evenings (phone work), weekends, holidays and red-days; desk time (we were open (and busy) when they could come to us) although the office was manned during regular office hours too.
There are several to choose from.
http://global.seoul.go.kr/
http://www.migrantok.org/ (migrant workers)
http://eng.hotline.or.kr/ Korea Women's Hot Line -Seoul Sexual Assault Counseling Center
or google for some of the others.
I spent most of my time working with hagwan teachers who were getting screwed (visa, labor standards, NPS. and NHIC issues) and on visa issues for DDD / household workers who had left their original employers and became undocumented (illegal migrants) in the process.
It was busy and over 8 years I had in excess of 15,000 files cross my desk - the large majority of which (in my case) were hagwan teacher problems.
