My site search was not that good. I know every school is different, but what month is most likely to be the vacation moth for the Seoul public schools?

Depends on when your school has you teaching winter or summer camp, but it would be when school isn't in session, so January, February or August.

Thanks FC. This is a 2-week vacation? Also, school starts in March, right? I know that in Japan it starts in April.

You are likely to get 2 weeks in August and 2 more in January and 2 more at the end of Feb if you re-sign. Student summer break is end of July to end of August and winter break is from around Xmas to the end of Jan and the last 2 weeks of Feb.

Specific dates vary from school to school and depend on the schedule the school has for your "day camps" during the student breaks.

So...even though the students are out, we are obligated to go to these day camps, right?

Also, would it probably be looked upon as really bad if I were to travel back to the U.S. during my 1-2 week break?

Kids get 3 months off. You get 4-6 weeks.
The rest of the time you are doing desk warming stuff or camps (as required by your contract).

The "camps" are part of your contracted obligations; up to 20 hours of class per week and up to 3 camps per vacation period (6 camps per year).

They usually don't care where you go on your vacation time

(unless you are planning to visit a yellow fever zone - Proof of vaccination is required by immigration before you are allowed re-entry to Korea if you did).

You'll have to contend with not knowing the final camps dates until 2-3 weeks before the camp starts. Hopefully your school is more organized than mine ever was.

some head teachers are cool, some are less so...

Last year my HT came to us and right away fixed our vacation dates so we could make our holiday plans, then she made the camp schedule. Ladies like her are few and far between Crying or Very sad

I gave the HT (another person) heads up today when I want to travel home, she told me she has to ask the Principal and 2 VPs first about the time. Then we can talk.

Who knows when that "talk" will be. Evil or Very Mad

Like was mentioned before you will get 2 weeks in summer, two weeks sometime in December or January and if you resign another 2 weeks. It also really depends on your school. I have been lucky and was given an extra week in the summer and winter. I guess I am suppossed to be desk warming but my school was very cool about it as I already pick up a lot of extra classes. I say try and have a good relationship with your coteachers especially your head teacher. Buy the principal and vice principal(s) gifts during Chuseok. Believe kissing a little ass will help a lot here. Hope this answers your question. Good Luck!

I like to have beneficial vacations. I'd like to take a random vacation on Friday night and return late Sunday, early Monday. Now, it doesn't fit my frugal model to take such a short vacation, but, if it is beneficial, like if I were going to a music festival in Tokyo, and I were to perform, then it would justify making that short weekend trip, because it would benefit me.
