What do you recommend for exchanging and carrying money. Plan on bringing about $500 USD. Should I exchange at the airport, and if so, will I get the same exchange rate from all the kiosks? Would you recommend exchanging all at once or would it make sense to keep a couple hundred USD available for future use?

The difference in exchanging $500 at the airport versus banks versus the ajummas of Namdaemun would be trivial at best. If you want to squeeze out every 100 won, then exchange a couple hundred at the airport for immediate use and change out the rest later as you need it.

Yes. Make sure you bring $100 bills for a faster exchange. You'll have a lot going on when you get here so it's probably best to exchange it all at the airport when you arrive.

The kiosks differ a bit (just like their branded bank branches in town differ a bit).
the difference is a matter of a few won per dollar.

on $500, just save yourself the grief and change it all at the exchange desk (AT INCHEON AIRPORT) you see by the glass doors just before you exit the customs area and BEFORE you are into the general public area. Do NOT buy your won outside of Korea.

Any differences (between kiosks, banks and money exchanges in the city) will be less than a couple dollars and it will cost you more than that for the subway ride to get there.

As others have said the general rate is simmilar.

Still three things I have seen.

The rate inside the glass doors is better than outside. So exchange after you get cleared but before you enter the general airport.

KB* (or KB Star) has evil on their shoulders.

Many banks will convert whatever you need with nothing more than a passport at a decent rate.

Confirming the above.

Just change it all before you go into arrivals. You submit your cash (any denominations are fine) & get the going rate of won handed back to you with a receipt & a smile from the pretty cashier. It doesnt get any simpler. You dont even need to count it, it'll be an honest accounting.
