My husband trained in Apgujeong for a couple of years, and he said there were a few Korean women and maybe one foreign woman that went to the academy he attended. He's been teaching me a bit of stuff and I think I'd like to get into it for exercise.
Curious if any of you ladies on the board are training anywhere, and if so, how it is going, pricing, etc. |

I did a double-take when reading the title...
but there is a sticker for that, Molly! and usually gyms are co-ed (not that I train BJJ, but had a friend that did and he said girls outnumbered the guys) |

There have been some girls at the gym I train at in Busan, foreign and Korean. It seems like they to come and go. I think a gym needs to build a core group of women who come regularly to attract others. One of my instructors was offering women a discount for that reason.
Every BJJ gym I've been to has been welcoming towards women. It's nice when there are girls who come because it tends to make everyone in the room act a little more mature and keep the place cleaner.
Training in Korea there will be a lot of smaller guys you can spar with without being crushed. |

Usually BJJ schools are co-ed. There are no separate places just for women (that I've ever heard of.) I know that's not what you asked, but I just thought I'd point that out if that was your thinking.
I'd say find the best school you can get to consistently and just check it out. There's bound to be a couple of women there, and if not you'll just roll with the guys.
Good luck! |
