I had just added 10 thousand won and the next day I tried to scan it on the bus and nothing. I have no idea what caused it to suddenly quit working. It doesn't beep when I slide it over the sensor, it's just a piece of meaningless plastic. I took it to a family mart and a g 25 and to several subway station help desks and no one knows what to do about it. Is it possible to get the money refunded or the card working again?

This happened to me once before. Neither the turnstiles in subway stations nor the machines on several buses recognized my card, but when I took it to a ticket booth inside a station, the employee there could find nothing wrong with my card since his charger DID recognize it.
You can get a refund through your bank account, less 500 Won for refund fee if the remaining balance is smaller than 20K. If the issue date is within one year, the refund covers both the plastic and the balance on it, but otherwise you get only the latter back.
You need to get an envelope/form for refund from one of those convenient stores, mail it, and it takes 2 weeks to process. The company does not, however, give you a replacement. You'll just have to buy a new one yourself.

or just throw it in the trash and buy a new one.

Accept the fact that during life you will lose (or waste) 10,000won several times each month and just get on with your life...

throw it in the trash, buy a new one.
