I assume I'll teach on the first day. I can't (I asked and was told no) go to the school before my first day to scope things out and get an idea of the textbooks and everything and there's no orientation or anything of that type.
Is it just an intro. lesson and sort it out as I go along?
It's not my first time teaching but my first time at a PS so I'm wondering how things play out. I don't have too many ideas of what to expect. Should be interesting....
Thanks! |

Your co teacher should lead the class and probably ask you to introduce yourself. Just let the kids ask you questions like where are you from, do you like kimchi, etc etc. If you have an afterschool class you will be by yourself and should prepare something introductory for it as well. I recommend setting up classroom rules, playing some sort of learning names game (depending on age) and getting comfortable with the class purpose. |

Yes, good ideas.
I think you should prepare a fun PPT about your home country. Include pictures of your house, family, country, etc. You can then elicit questions from the students. The co-teacher can help translate if needed.

Definitely ^^ Introduce yourself via powerpoint
Have the kids introduce themselves.
Play a name/introduction game.
Get them to make an English nametag.
Begin with classroom management--classroom rules, routines and expectations.
There's prob not enough time for all of these, so choose the ones that suit you.
Good luck |

Helpful suggestions. Thanks!
Just not sure if I'm going to have time to make a PPT or anything of the like. I really don't have any idea what to expect. If I'm going to walk into school at opening time, be shown around a bit, and stuck into a classroom or if I will have time to sit down for a few minutes and get a PPT going.
In the hagwons I was always there a few days before getting books and everything sorted out.
Might just make a PPT beforehand and do some of the introduction suggestions. |

If you've taught before, there shouldn't be a problem... the kids will be good because it's the first day. I went over the rules before I even introduced myself, then I did a powerpoint. I also explained my rewards/punishment system... |
