Holy crap, there are some nice photos there.
It would be nice if you could put the technical info with the photos. I'm interested in the film brand and speed, aperature, shutter speed, filters, etc. Don't know if anybody notices this stuff but me, but I think it would make it a lot better. |

Digital camera photos that are edited properly in a good program like Photoshop 6 or 7 retain this information (EXIF) inside the JPG. The board gallery software automatically displays it - click on my photos and you'll see all of that info. Those displaying scans from film, or are using other editing programs, need to add it in their discription manually.
I agree - it's helpful info. |

I have to say that I really like the pics posted by diver and koreanewfie. Both take very good pictures.
BTW, Koreanewfie, you aren't supposed to take pictures in the museum in kyungju. I once took a few in there before the secruity guard shook his head at me. |
Wow, thanks for the compliment... I'm new to the hobby, and appreciate any encouragement. Btw, I'm with diver, the woman in the field is my favourite.
As for the museum pic, I know inside pics are usually a no-no, but the guard there saw the camera, and I held it and did the classic, "okay?" motion, and he waved no problem. I'm always careful not to step on toes. |

Nuts. This happens sometimes. I'll get rid of it, but it means he'll have to upload it again. It's sort of a bug in the system.
Once again, please make sure you're uploading to your own album. Thanks. |

Can we only submit phtos of Korea? I have tons of great photos of South Africa as well.
*edit*
Is there no way to get round the 12 photo limit? I just realized that I may have subitted more than 12. Its tough to choose only 12!
Oh well, I need some time to go through my stuff anyway. I have like 4 years of photos to go through. |

I think it's best to only stick to Korea due to the nature of the board. As it is, if we see something that catches our eye, (like a building, monument, river, etc.) we can easily swing on by and check it out for ourselves. The same is not true if you post pictures of SA, or if I post pictures of Cambodia, or even Newfoundland.
I like discussing ways to deal with the shared climate, etc., and sharing experiences unique to taking pictures in Korea. I feel that to broaden the scope would take away a lot of that, at least for me. |

I don't know if posting non-Korean pictures is such a bad thing. Why not? It's a photography contest first and foremost.
Anyway, it's up to our Great Leader, Lemon. |

Sorry! Korea only.
Actually, it won't be much of a contest until next month, when I assemble a judging panel and select the top two entries for judging from each user. But for both the "contest" and "gallery" aspect of this, they must be Korea photos. |

I agree with the only korea pictures policy. I do have other photos that I would like to use. But we are in Korea and this is a korean discussion board.
How many girls are in the contest. It seems that except for sistersarah (who i am assuming is a female) all the participants are male. |

I had a couple of reasons for making the 12 image limit. The biggest one is it keeps a wide variety of users' images on the "random images" section of the front page. If someone flooded the page with 60 images, they'd end up monopolizing it.
Furthermore, it forces users with a lot of pictures to make HARD decisions about which photos they want to upload. The judges are only going to get to see two of each user's images, so there's going to be even more slimming down in the near future.
While on the subject, here's my tentative plan for the contest part:
Judges:
I'm assembling a "celebrity judge" panel from the board community. There will be between 5 and 10 judges. I've been quietly asking people if they'd serve on it. As I'm not going to submit my own photos for judging (and no mod's photos will be judged, either) I may be on it, too. I'm trying to pick people who have backgrounds in the visual arts, or are well-known on the board, or both. If anyone has suggestions about users I should be asking, please PM me.
Submissions:
I'm going to take two photos (or possibly just one) from each user's gallery. I'm going to choose the two most viewed photos, UNLESS that user would prefer I take another one. If that's the case, I'd like them to PM me when the time comes.
These "finalist" images will then go on a new photo gallery for the judges' viewing. It'll be marked read-only, and I'll likely publicize the URL of it then. I'm also toying with a poll on the board here, where regular users can vote for their favourite image, and let that "people's choice" vote count as one judge (but no more - too easy for socks to stuff the ballot-box).
Voting:
The judges will each select their 1st, 2nd, and 3rd favourite images, based on creativity, aesthetics, and representation of Korea (I just made that up, so it's not carved in stone). Each judge's "1st" vote is weighed 5 points, 2nd is 3 points, and 3rd is 1 point. They'll e-mail or PM me their choices, I'll add them up, and we'll announce the winner.
Prize:
Basically, nothing except maybe a pat on the back. The winner(s) get their winning image(s) displayed in a "sticky" at the top of the board here for a month or two. They also get the title, which they can include in their .sig for boasting purposes. But hey, it's not really about the prizes, because there aren't any, but the process of displaying, critiquing and improving.
I'm open to improvements and suggestions, but that's where my thinking is right now. |

Hey Lemon,
will Dave Sperling be a "celebrity" judge? I think it would be cool if he participated. |

Yup. He's lined up. He's a good photographer, too -he's got one of those Canon EOS-10D digital SLRs that I'd love to have.

Lemon,
When do y'reckon the final judging will take place?
I think that since spring is here, the weather's getting nicer, there are some festivals coming up in April, blah blah, there's opportunity for people to get out there to get some newer shots.
Just a thought. |

I'm thinking, end of next month, or maybe first week of May. You're right about the season change - things are about to get a lot greener. |
