|
|
I've got this K-coworker who keeps telling on me. If I do anything wrong, she runs to the director and starts telling him that I screwed up. (yes, it is very childish) Okay...as of today it has happened 3 times.
I'm pissed!
I've been ignoring it, but today it went too far.
Here's the question....How should I handle the situation? If I go off on her, then it's probably gunna be an ever bigger problem.
However, i think thats my only choice...right? Has anybody been in a similar situation? Maybe you can give me some advice on how i should handle the dilema. |

Lose it, tear her of a strip next time she does it. Arrange a meeting with the director to discuss the unwarranted dislike and prejudice you're feeling. Then start talking about "other schools."
Whats the worse that can happen? The biatch won't talk to you for the next 6 months? Fine and dandy... |

Yeah, that's very mature, yelling at her like a pyscho will make the situation a whole lot better.
Confront her. It's very plain and simple. It is the easiest course of action. Tommorow morning, before your first class, ask her why she is always going behind your back to the director. Ask her if there is a problem with your style of teaching or is it just a personal thing.
If you are going to be working with her for the next while, you need to get to the root of the problem. |

One of my k-coworkers is a tattletale too, but in a good way.
On friday i said: "god i hate my fridge its too small"
she told on me, and today they delivered a new fridge.
Same once with wanting a watercooler, and again when i was upset about a snotty student, he removed her from my class permanently.
I love tattletales! |

Okay...here is one example...
I don't want to change the subject here, but this is my story.
I have these 3 middle school student boys. Well, there really cool guys and we get along good. Their always talking about the computer game Starcraft and they wanted to teach me how the play the game. They all go the local PC bong after class every night. (when i say every night...i mean every night )
Anyway, after class one night we were talking and they wanted me to go to the PC room with them. We walked across the street and played some Starcraft. No big deal right?
my K-coworker over heard our converstion and told my director that I was taking the students to bad places. Here's the deal. the students go there everynight...with or without me.
i just don't appreciate people talking about me. |

the other two incidents....were concerning my teaching style.
i wouldn't care but it always leads to the director sitting me down and having talks with me. lets just say it is causing a lot of problems. |

One of the teachers at my school does that all the time about me. We ride together to school. Whatever I tell her on the way to school or do during class becomes a matter of private record at the school. I am not sure if it's because she has a big mouth or whether they are just interested in our lives. If the director isn't hassling you over it, then she probably isn't really saying anything to bad about you.
You haven't said whether her actions have landed you in hot water.
edit: Just saw your last post. You need to sit down and have a talk with this teacher. Do it tomorrow and give us all an update. |

here is the problem. my boss usually agrees with her!
..and he has told me before not to get mad at her for talking about me.
it's a bad situation that keeps getting worse. |

sounds like he is no longer foreign...
ask him what is wrong with going to a pc bang with a couple of boys...
maybe ya could start beating the crap outta her..
or...
maybe....
be really nice to her, explain that what you are doing is not harmful and it makes the students happy.. explain that you would like to be her friend and offer to take her for lunch or drinks 1 night..
dunno pal... i've been it that situation but it was 2 or 3 students... i had to keep losing until i was sacked

Hey.
I had to deal with that kind of stuff in my last job. My solution was -you may laugh-...to first examine where i could eliminate the oppotunity for criticism altogether. Yes, impossible, I know, but its still worth a try.
Another approach....
If the k-teacher was attacking my teaching style...I would go to her with a question like this.....
"hi, XXX. How are you? Are you busy? Well, i hear you have a problem with my teaching style. It would be much more professional, and helpful to me and the students if you would discuss the issue with ME first. Maybe you have some suggestions on how i can fix the problem?
She was shocked and her ego was fed at the same time...it was great to watch her spew the bullshit.
Another thing you could do is make the students aware that what they tell their k-teacher will affect the fun they have in the classroom. This is a little underhanded, but it worked for me.
For example, I always reward my classes with a fun activity or a game for the last 10min., providing they have been well behaved for the previous 40min. Because this one class was always well behaved and exceptionally attentive, I gave them 15min....almost every day. One evening the director told me not to play games every day. The director is in the school for about half an hour a day, so i knew it came from the k-teacher for that class. Anyway, i went to the class the next day and at the 50 min mark i heard "Teacher, game!'
I quietly told them that we could not play a game in the class anymore because someone in the class said we play a lot of games, and now the director wants more study time. I told them i really like them and they are great students but the direcor heard that we play to often. Believe me, i saw 10 lightbulbs go on that day. |

drinks are totally out of the question. sorry.
about the PC room?
he explained to me that PC bongs are smoke filled and rotten.
in my defense....
first of all, the students invited me.
secondly, they go to the place with or without me. (and yes their parents know)
i thought it would be totally cool because the students would be given a chance to practice their English for FREE! |

its weird your boss has issues with kids and the pc bangs, like wtf else are the poor little b uggers meant to do for entertainment, its not like they can go down the local park and run around playing soldiers.
god damn speaking of pc bangs these, no kidding they would be a least mid 20's korean guys are all playing starcraft and like screaming at each other, not in an aggressive way but man its so lame to see, kids you understand but adults?.
anyways i shouted my middle school class to a pc bang instead of teaching, it was at the end of the term and there all good kids, they fricken love me after that, and i kicked there butts at warcraft after they were all talking smack about how good they were, hahahahaha.
side note-bribery so works with middle schoolers, i have a lateish class with them so some times i turn up to class with a couple of bags of chips or ice creams or whatever. it may not be professional but i genuinel feel sorry for them having to stay in class till 10-11pm. |
