I'm in a dilemma, im due to start work in under 3 weeks and im waiting my Visa certificate to apply for my visa at the embassy in London.

Problem being is that i Live in Northern Ireland so im hoping to send my application by post and receive a stamped passport in return. I rang the embassy and they told me they don't know yet if i need an interview until i apply and i made sure they knew i was a first time applicant for an E-2.

Ive heard so much about people having to have an interview in person and others being fine through postal applications.

So you can see my worry with timescales and things, trying to work out if i have to go through further expense and stress flying to London for a 2min interview to ask me about my hobbies and interests and also how long it would take from sending the e2 application along with certificate to receiving it back in the post.

The worry is that my employer will only book the flights after i have confirmed visa. So basically i could receive my visa and be flying the next day which is annoying. I would like a set day i will be leaving so i can prepare myself physically and mentally for the year ahead.

Anyone else in the same boat? I mean is this way of departing normal

I'm in almost exactly the same boat..
I'm in north west England..Near Liverpool..
Though it's not as far as you it is still quite far from London..
The school has received my documents, and i am waiting for the number..
..I have about 5 weeks before they want me to start..

If anyone has been through this process as a beginner like us.. please let us know how it went..

You'd be in the minority if you did have to go for an interview. Typically, British applicants don't have to do it. I've yet to many any Brits who had to do an interview.

Hi Mark, I'm pretty much in the same situation you were, glad to hear you got your visa back promptly. I'm about to post off my Letter of Appointment + Contract. Did you also send the the embassy the E-2 Visa Checklist form listed on http://gbr.mofat.go.kr/eng/eu/gbr/visiting/entry/index.jsp ?

Also do you have a link to the exact visa application form you used, because that page links 2 (slightly different) ones, and I don't know if one would be better than the other. And can you put cash in the envelope to pay or does it have to be one of those postal order?

Many questions lol, i hope you can help!

Marklong,

As you're from the UK and have just recently gone through the E2 visa process post-September 1st, I wanted to ask you a couple of questions:

Did you get a copy of your original degree certificate notarised by a public notary/solicitor and then apostilled by the FCO?

Did you get the certificate signed/stamped by someone from your university before sending it off for apostille?

Cheers!

Hi all

I am supposed to start work next Wednesday (20th) but my letter of appointment will only be arriving on Monday!! Needless to say the start day will now be when I arrive...
However I need to book my flight at least 4 or 5 days in advance or the price becomes way out of my budget... If I hand in my application personally on Monday could I fly on Sunday (24th)? Or would it be safter to wait till I actually have my passport back?

For those of you who have had your first E2 in the last couple of months could you please let me know how long it took for you to get yours back?

Cheers

Sunday, no chance. It's 5 days exactly. If you handed it in on the Monday, you'd be able to pick it up on the following Monday.

If it helps at all, with my first E2 I dropped it off Monday 10am and collected it Fri lunch time. I flew out Fri night KAL flight 9pm. I did shit myself the entire week, but hung around at a friends place incase of interview, but I didn't need it. When I dropped pp off I was in/out in 10mins and when I collected it, it was more or less the same. I felt I had been worried over nothing, they seemed to know exactly what they were doing and it was smooth. There was a guy in there having some trouble renewing, mainly due to his degree cert being in Korea. If you have all your docs - you'll be fine.
