Just wondering if anyone would recommend buying those. They look comfortable, but I'm not sure if they really offer real neck support when you're sitting on the plane.

I would. I bought mine on the way back to Korea after visiting home for Christmas last year. Best purchase I made. Really good for any long haul anywhere.

Try flying for 12+ hours with one then do it again without. Your neck will hate you Laughing

mine also easily ties onto my backpack. Helps out when some of those hostels and backpacker place cheap out on adequate pillow sizes.

Yeah, they're great. Mine's inflatable and is very small when folded up for carrying around.

Yea, I have the inflatable version as well. Although not as comfortable as the regular ones, I love being able to fold it up into the size of a deck of cards. I would not take any flight over 5 hours without it.

If you are buying the inflatable ones, which are available at most airports, you will probably have a choice of different designs. Some have more support in the middle at the back, some have less.

I recommend the ones with less support at the back (i.e. the sides inflate more than the back). I think the head rests more comfortably with those ones. The ones with the extra support at the back make the head roll to the side as you sleep, instead of allowing it to settle back.

Here is an example of one with less support at the back:

Be careful though some seem to itch pretty bad, maybe you can bring your own pillowcase and wrap it around one of those pillows to deal with the 12-hour itch.

I flew next to a doctor once, who traveled long hauls quite frequently. He recommended (and used himself) one of the neck braces you get when you have a stiff neck. I lived in Egypt at the time, and it cost about 5,000 won from a pharmacy there. I can't imagine they're much more expensive. They keep your head from falling over any direction, and provide better support. One of those plus the airline pillow suffices for me, and they're great on long bus/train rides.
