Since this is in the job-related forum, I would suggest asking your co-teacher.
On a serious not, I've never been to Muju's resort, but I will never go back to Yongpyeong. They don't take care of their snow, it's very icey and dangerous at high speeds, and the ski patrol doesn't even know how to ride courteously.
High One is the only place I'll go for an overnight trip. I do venture to Jisan resort for day trips just to get drunk and ride on their small mountain for fun. |

I've never been to Muju, but concur with the guy above above Yongpyong. I went there after a really heavy dump of snow earlier this year and they had done their best to remove all the offending white stuff from their ice-rink like pistes. They had literally used a snow plough to push it all into the trees at the side of the piste and fenced it off. Ridiculous, it could have been a powder day in Korea!!
The pistes here are pretty poor. They're icy, narrow, and quite often full of twats who don't have the slightest idea of how to ski/board.
Niseko in Japan is only a 2 hour flight though... |

I hear Muju gets plenty of fresh powpow, but Yongpyong has always been ski-able whenever I have been there. WHy not mix it up and try somewhere else like bears town or cheonnie(star hill) both are like 1 hr from Seoul... |

Been to both - ice ice and more ice.
Youngpyung has a lot longer runs than Muju.
Both are crowded and both can be dangerous due to the lack of knowledge about how to ski/board
havent been to High1 yet but have heard better things
Japan might be on the cards for this coming season though |

High 1 for the win. Longest runs, best snow maintenance. Go late in the season and the mush is kind of awesome. Feels like you're wakeboarding, not snowboarding. Gets obscenely crowded.
Phoenix Park is pretty good too. Comparable to High 1.
Hit Sajo in Suanbo for a less-crowded, learner friendly place. If you can get there on a weekday, you can almost have the mountain to yourself. Don't go if you can already ski/board: it has the shortest runs in the country.
Yangji Pines was upgrading a bit the last time I was there. It's pretty functional and boring though: one big flat mountain face divvied up into runs. It's also the closest to Seoul, so it's ridiculously crowded, but open nearly 24 hours.
I've seen Gangreung (dunno the resort name) in the off-season only, but it looks like a decent hill.
Has anyone tried the O2 place? I can't find anyone who's ever been there. |

None of the above. I love skiing, but went once here in Korea and it royally sucked, and from what I've read of other places, it's not better anywhere else.
Koreans ski like they drive...that should be warning enough not to go skiing here. |

oh come on, its not that bad...
Its just too busy
Youve got to bear in mind theres not many places to go - that makes it (and most other things) a bit too congested mostly.
Best thing to do (as in all things korean in my opinion) - is go 'EARLY'. Koreans are afternoon/evening people on the whole. Whenever Ive gone on the mornings (to do most things - incl. skiing), its a whole lot quieter before lunch.
get a pension and get to bed early - thats my advice. |
