THis weekend half the sites I use wouldn't load.

No problem with - gmail, hotmail, the guardian, wiki, ted, yahoo, youtube

Wouldn't open - eslcafe Korean forums, bt junkie (until yesterday eve and then SUPER SLOW) demonoid would load occasionaly but super slow, same with pirate bay and a few other sites.

Why would half the sites work but half not, I can't make any sense of it and I checked my internet settings and nothing was accidentaly changed that would stop certain sites etc....

Weird.

My torrents have been running ridiculously slow lately as well. Not WWW, no troubles, there, but some torrents (even up to 100 seeds/leechers) have been slogging along at 0.1 k/sec for a week now. uTorrent is having a hard time connecting to peers.

I just called my cable company (Cable and more) and told them about this problem. She said another foreigner had complained but she would send someone over to my place to check. I explained that it seems to be a problem with the link to overseas, not just my room. Still, a guy is coming. I am sure everything will be fine when the guy checks, but if I had a nice list of websites to run though when he gets here it might help to show there really is a problem.

So far I have:

http://eslcafe.com/ working now
http://www.demonoid.com/ working now
www.thepiratebay.org not working
www.google.com working now
http://watch.slingbox.com/watch/sling_player not working

And this is happening on :
Cable and more
SK Broadband
TBroad

My bandwidth is has been noticeably low too on SK. Particularly so on the weekends. I think it has to do with people connected to your local SK server playing Starcraft 2. While I don't know much about the new game rage, I do know it would consume mega bandwidth. Welp, it's time they upgrade the servers to accommodate the savage data hogs. It's the same back home, if you have too many users on a server, it's slow. If they are all watching Youtube and downloading at, it's a download speed squeeze in the evenings where you have to wait or things time out.

Well the service guy came and left. He showed me how to power cycle my modem.
Anyway, I showed him all the down websites and he said C+M isn't responsible for the slow connection between Korea and the outside world, which is probably true enough. He was nice and all but really I just wanted to let the main office know about the big problem (often no connection to the outside world).
Be sure and let your office know about this problem and maybe if enough people call everything will suddenly be fixed.

edit -
actually power cycling the modem was a really good idea, I should not have make light of it. My slingplayer is working now and it wasn't working before. Piratebay is still down, but that is pretty much common for them. If you haven't tried power cycling the modem, give it a try.

unplug it and plug it back in. From either the wall or the device itself. If you have a router (wifi) do the modem first and then the router.

No bad repercussions from doing it.

The service guy was stressing that it would get a new IP number after doing the power cycle and that is what would solve my problems.

I think someone at the internet office just got back from lunch today and noticed that the cable to America was out and put it back in; they'll never admit to it though.

C&M has been absolutely horrendous for the last few weeks for me. At random points during the day nothing overseas is accessible. Websites, torrents, game servers, nothing. When it does start working again its extremely slow. We're talking pings in the 1400 range and a download speed of around 0.5 MB/s (normally around 30MB/s in overseas tests). I've started keeping a log of when exactly its unusable.

Give em a call and let them know. When I called the English help person, she said one other foreigner had reported it. Maybe if 50 report it they will check on it.
She may offer to send over a A/S (After Sale) guy. The A/S guy told me resetting the modem pulls a new IP which can help all kinds of problems. Actually it did help. So reset your modem first, tell C+M no need to send the A/G guy (or let him come, it's free and they might find something), because it is an external connection problem of some kind.

My torrents sped up. A couple actually managed to finish last night. I've been with SK for three years now and never had this trouble before. It might have something to do with the obscene number of torrents I've been downloading lately. Yeah, Starcraft 2 too, never thought of that, but it makes perfect sense.
