Can anyone tell me where I can buy a deck of regular playing cards in Seoul?
Thanks.

Yep, any chain convenience store (Family Mart, Seven Eleven, Buy the Way, Kosa Mart) will have them, but they're slippery, plastic crap and cost around 12'000won. I believe it's some kind of conspiracy to ensure that Go-Stop remains the card game of choice. Hwa-Tu decks can be bought in the same place for about 2000won. Too bad GoStop and variations of it are the only thing you can play with them (that I know of, if you know better, please enlighten me.)

You can get regular playing cards at Home Plus, E-Mart, or other department stores in the games section.

I've seen them at GS25, but they were quite expensive. I don't remember the exact price.

They're all go-stop, or "hanafuda" and minor variations thereof. Some interesting information there though. I didn't know that hanafuda (the cards that Koreans call "hwa-tu") were derived by the Japanese from western playing cards that were banned in Japan.

Kyobo, Morning Glory, Alpha, Family Mart, GS25, Buy-The-Way, E-Mart, Home Plus, Lotte Mart. And, the second floor of the Hamilton Hotel (Itaewon) shopping center has a poker gear shop.

1000 won mart has cheap Royals for 1000 a deck. They have Japan Royals for 4000. Spring for the Japan royals.

Plastic cards are better if you have a proper surface and are holding a 100% legal tournament.

Plastic coated paper cards are better for casual coffee shop play.

like some others have already said, they aren't hard to find. maybe a bit expensive depending on where you buy them, but not hard to come by at all.

and while you're playing cards, learn go-stop. it's a fun game if for no other reason than you can really slap those things down on the table. the noise is curiously satisfying.

Go stop is awesome. I play all the time with my buddies with our spare change. Good times.
