Hi Everyone,
The application form for the Yonsei University job (3.5 Million/month) recently posted on this site asks for the applicant's Social Security Number. In my case, I am assuming it refers to my Social Insurance Number (Canada's equivalent to America's Social Secruity Number) because on the next line it asks for the applicant's Alien Registration Number. I have never seen an application form request this piece of highly sensitive information. Additionally, the application form is requested to be sent via email to a Yahoo account, there is no mailing address or telephone number provided, and the website that is attached via a hyperlink describes the job as 2.2 million/month and it is really sparse...no pictures, no contact information etc.
I am aware of the scams that can be posted on sites such as Dave's and I am wondering if this may be one? Opinions? Am I paranoid or is there need for concern with this job posting. Have you ever seen a Korean teaching job application request a Social Insurance or Social Security Number?
Thanks |

If it seems sketch it probably is. Never give out a number like that through an email. No job I've ever applied to has asked that.
Good luck!

They have no business asking for your SS number or your country's equivalent.
Maybe that box was for Korean citizens to write their Korean ID number and it was a mistranslation?? (There are a good number of uni jobs open to Korean citizens who are fluent in English)
If they're asking for a straight up US SS number it's very very odd. Other countries have completely different terms for the equivalent number and it's of no use to the school anyway. Unless they want to steal your identity. Then it's kinda useful haha. |

I wouldn't give them that info. There is no way they can access the information associated with that number (they are not a government agency) so it is most likely a scam. |
