Thanks, munsterdevil!
sluggo832004, I picked elementary, middle, high school. In that order.
So I am still on hold for my docs. Today I found out how much it costs to send the docs to Korea. I have a friend that works at the UPS store and even with her 50% employee discount it is still $28. I don't want to have to pay that twice. I just hope the apostille doesn't take as long as it says on their website.
Anyone else held uo on docs?
floody08, I had my interview on Thursday, Oct 14 at 9:30am KST (Wed night in the US) and got an email from my recruiter late yesterday afternoon. Did you apply directly or through a recruiter? |
It cost me 32 to send my documents Hope they are okay, as I don't want to pay that again. |

For all those moving to Korea, this is a pretty good site.
http://wiki.galbijim.com/Main_Page
It's basically a "Wiki" for Westerners moving to and living in Korea

Where did you get this information from? So far EPIK is in the very very early stages of recruiting so I doubt one single person has got an offer yet |
Oh, sorry, I should have been more clear. I was referring to more than just the spring 2011 intake. In general, the last couple of intakes have been difficult for people with more than just a BA. You can get a good idea of that just from reading several threads on this forum.
But here's another example: I know identical twins with very similar resumes applied to EPIK for the Fall 2010 intake. One did not list her MA on her application (her explanation: because she didn't want to send/notarize it) and she was the only one interviewed and offered a position. |

I've never come across that before, and I'm not calling you a liar but I don't think it's true, I think people are just feeding you false information. Reason being is that Teaching experience also gives you entitlement for greater pay and EPIK loves to see Teaching experience on the application form. Additionally, the guy that interviewed me urged me to complete a TEFL course before I go in order that I would receive greater pay.
It may apply to jobs outside of EPIK, but I'm almost certain that it doesn't apply to EPIK.
Also, let me reiterate, I'm NOT calling you a liar, I just believe they are people feeding you the wrong information. Could you provide a link to the threads where they state that having an MA decreases your chances of receiving an offer from EPIK. |

Well maybe that's true. I do know the twins personally and could put you in contact with them but that's something else entirely.
Here are a couple of recent threads:
http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea/viewtopic.php?t=193131
This OP has CELTA TEFL qualifications, degrees in English literature, and non-ESL teaching experience. See the responses from Hotwire, especially about public school official hiring policy.
http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea/viewtopic.php?t=193253
This is my own experience. See the responses from oldfatfarang and alwaysbeclosing100.
There are more but I don't have time to look for them right now. |

I've done a bit of digging in with those links, and while there are some reports of it, the evidence is scant, it's only 2-3 posters claiming it. The guy hotwire claims he can copy and paste emails from recruiters that say don't put down your MA in the application form, but he doesn't input them in any thread, furthermore, copying and pasting proves nothing. To be honest I had a look at hotwire's other posts and he comes across as a bit of an oddball. But that's just my opinion!
With that, I urge all people, if applicable, to include their MAs on the application form. I mean think about it, if public schools didn't want to pay more money to ESL teachers then there would only be the one pay level! |

How long have you been waiting for a reply? I've been talking to a girl from the August EPIK and she said she had to wait 8-9 days, so don't worry too much |

None of the foreigners here have had to submit their intent to renew forms yet so they don't know how many they need yet. Expect some late confirmations. |

Hi everyone!
I applied to EPIK 2011 through Korvia. I haven't heard from EPIK or Korvia, so after seeing people getting interviews and acceptances, I'm starting to get a little concerned. Korvia's e-mail is down across the board, and I'm trying to find out if EPIK even received my application. Should I assume that EPIK isn't going to happen for me, and move on? |

Did you fill this out?
http://www.korvia.com/newapplication_us/
Do that first, then a recruiter will contact you. Mine is Joyce Kim, she is over the EPIK program. She is the person that I have submitted all of my documents to. She is really quick to reply to my emails so perhaps you're just not emailing the right people. |

I havent heard anything yet. I wish I could use Korvia, but i already submitted my application with another recruiter.
I have 3 years experience as a teacher, and I put level 1 as my salary. maybe that is the reason?? |

Yes, they will. I am going to go ahead and wait on my FBI CRC to be apostilled before sending my docs though... because it's $30 each time I ship docs to Korea. Yikes! |
