bottom line is you will not see any advantage unless you have more than 4GB of ram. So why bother?

From reading on various credible and popular computer sites this was the advice I found last year.

Has held up so far and I can't imagine my 64 bit capable computer running on an 32 bit OS working much better on a 64 Bit OS than it does with my 3 gigs of Memory. I don't play games or video intensive programes though. But the experts all say if you have less than 4 Gigs of Memory, it doesn't matter

Unless the app is specifically written for 64Bit, it wont take advantage of it. Adobe CS4 and above does for example. So unless the app is native 64Bit, its not worth the hassle.

Probably true that it's not worth wiping your 32-bit OS to replace it with a 64-bit OS unless you really need more RAM and/or 64-bit programs.....

......but I for one would certainly not accept a new computer which I might want to use for the next 3 or 4 years which could not address more than 3.5GB of RAM.

64-bit hardware and software reached the tipping point about 18 months ago. It's the standard now.
