Those hangover drinks are a waste of money. They are like five bucks a pop, and they're basically just some weird traditional Korean herbs (which do nothing) plus caffeine.
Just drink water or an energy drink (or another beer, hair of the dog), eat a meal, and go back to sleep if you can. |

Go to North Korea mate and drink this on your nights out instead! HAHA
http://io9.com/5481058/scientists-have-discovered-booze-that-wont-give-you-a-hangover
The key to drinking is lining your stomach with milk/oil eating carbs to suck up some of the alcohol, not drinking to fast so your liver can function properly without too much flowing through your blood stream to your head, and trying to remember when your getting dizzy to drink heaps of water for the oxygen and hydrating reasons.....
do this and your hangover is merely just drinking water in the morning and eating a big meal...though if you eat heaps when you wake up expect to go back to bed very quickly! |

I've always believed that a hangover is just a set of withdrawal symptoms from alcohol. Hydration is very important, but for my body, hair of the dog works best. I always have a Bloody Mary (it's got salt, vitamin C and just a little bit of vodka to get rid of that nasty nausea) |

What makes you say that? Who asked for hangover cures?
The OP asked about:
"experience with Korean hangover drinks? Looks like Morning Calm (love the name!) and Dawn080 (or something like that) are the most popular.
What exactly do they help with - nausea? Headache? And how much of a difference did it actually make?"
Thanks
Notwithstanding the fact that most responders have recommended hangover cures, nobody on this thread has asked for hangover cures.
The OP requested info regarding experience about Korean hangover drinks. |

The gatorade re hydrates and the pizza soaks up any left over booze in your gut and colon. I swear by this and it has always worked
I have to call BS on the pizza soaking up booze in your gut. Everyone knows alcohol is directly absorbed into the bloodstream through the lining of the "gut." |

Yes, eating this is a pretty standard part of my recovery regimen. Usually I'll eat it with a 1/2 bottle to a bottle of soju and plenty of cigarettes. This won't bring me all the way back to 100%, but it will get rid of most of the sickness so all I'll have to do is drink water and get some sleep.
But, this regimen also works great if you have to go on a bender and need to get yourself back in drinking mode in the evening after getting home at 8am from the previous night out. The soju is enough to eliminate your withdrawal symptoms and by the time the bottle is gone I'm usually ready for another night of binge drinking (albeit I won't be well-rested).
The hangover drinks at 711, etc. in my experience do very little and to the extent that they help at all just aren't cost effective at 5K won a pop. |

The guy from Seouleats swears by Dawn 808. It did nothing for me and tasted wretched. |

If that were the case, if you drank on an empty stomach, you'd only dry heave. We all know that isn't true.

I've tried the Dawn808 and think it's alright. I think it's meant to be drank before you start drinking to prevent a hangover. Could also just be a placebo affect, which is pretty powerful in itself.
Anyways, there are a few ways to get over a hangover. I like sweating it out, by either eating spicy food, sitting in a hot tub or sauna at the local jimjilbang, or if you can handle it, getting some exercise. Or all 3, really. Then drink plenty of water of course.
I learned that hangovers are caused by your pituitary gland in your brain getting messed up and sending out too much ADH (a hormone) to your kidney, which in turn takes out too much water from your bloodstream. This leaves you dehydrated and pissing all the time, which makes you feel like shit. So drink plenty of water to compensate for your over-active kidneys. Or just punch your kidneys to give em the message to stop screwing up. That might not work though... |
