There is the whole quitting thing. No need for a release. Dont have to leave the country, etc. But what are some others? I hear that you cant be deported on an F2-1 if, for example, you are caught doing privates. Is this true? How far can u take it until you are deported? Or do you just face jail time for some crimes? I was just curious...nit like Im gonna throw my boss out the window..but who knows:)

If caught on a f2-1 visa tutoring or working in a school (without permission) then they fine you. The trick is that the fine just keeps going up. My friend was caught 3 times working in schools without permission and he was fined 3 times. The fines just kept going up. It is eventually not worth the risk.

It is not well known but if you register with your local Dept. of Education and submit proper credentials , you can be issued a license to teach privately just like a Korean teacher. Submit your license to Imm. ( they won't like it ) aand you can teach privates but you must pay Korean tax on your earnings.

How much are fines?
Also, what about more interesting crimes? Illegal work, kinda boring. What would you have to do to get deported on an F2-1? Anything? Or would u just get jailed in a korean jail?

Interesting. Apparently I'm eligible for an F-2 because of the 7-year sojourn thing, but nobody's given any really good reason for getting one.

It doesn't offer too much.

Instead of a workplace sponsoring you, a spouse is. It means you have a right to be in the country regardless of employment.

However, it is not a quit at will ticket. You still have an E2 permit on top of your F2 visa. You need to have the E2 cancelled if you quit, or at the very least obtain another one with a different school. Immigration can still refuse you a new E2 even though they will allow you to remain in the country on your F2. Because other nationalities besides English countries can get an F2 there has to be this permit system.

One benefit I suppose is that you can engage in any sort of employment. You are not restricted to the E2 tasks.

I find immigration is nicer because I am connected to Korea.
