Hi,

I'm going to be getting an SSD from Danawa. I'm thinking of going for the G-Skill Phoenix or the Vertex 2E (basically one of the Sandforce controller ones.) The 120GB ones are the first I've seen that are within my price range (about 350,000 Won) so I thought I'd go for it.

Has anyone here ordered via Danawa? Are there any retailers on there that are to be avoided? Anything else I should know before ordering?

I have a Korean debit card, it's not a credit card, but a Maestro. Do you think they'll accept that?

Thanks

Danawa doesn't actually sell anything themselves. They just compare prices from various other sites. That being said, I think online shopping in Korea is safe. Shipping is generally quick and returns are usually hassle-free. I would just click on the cheapest price and go for it. I've been doing that for over 5 years and never had an issue.

About your debit card, it will definitely work but you may or may not have to download a security certificate from your bank first before you will be able to use it. It depends on the issuing bank/card company.

OK thanks.

I'll make sure to fire up IE 3 or whatever archaic crap they insist I use for the security certificate!

I'll just take your advice then and go with the cheapest.

Is delivery normally regular mail, ems or courier?

I don't remember having problems with Danawa while browsing with a modern client.

What I did have a problem with was registering. Danwa would not accept my foreign ID # -- it came up with a message expliciting stating (according to Google Translate) that it does not accept foreigner IDs. Not sure if it's just a bad machine translation or if they really don't.

If you can't manage to get Danawa working: JoyZen (www.joyzen.co.kr) worked out well for me. They're not a listing service, they're the actual seller.

I just bought one of samsungs new line of SSDs a few weeks ago. Picked up a 64gb.

Both the NAND flash and controller are built in-house. Pretty damn fast boot-up time too!!!

I ordered all the parts for my machine from http://comtoyou.co.kr/main/
they were fast. Ordered Sunday night, Tuesday morning it was delivered.

No trouble with any parts. Some things they're the best price, others slightly higher, I ended up ordering from one place to make it simple.

Someone else said the Intel ones are better. I wonder if they considered this latest version?

The intel ones are generally better because of their burst read speed, however the new sandforce controllers have destroyed intel in the writes and some other tasks. Either way they are blistering bloody fast. The next gen intels are coming soon and I wager they'll be impressive. The intels are currently way more expensive than the sandforce. So bang for bunk the sandforce is a way better option.

The sandforce ones are the ocz vertex 2e and g-skill phoenix pro and some others AFAIK. They usually say sandforce on the danawa listings.
