I'm preparing for my move to Korea at the end of December and have been giving consideration to purchasing a sling box in order to tap into my sister's cable from my laptop while in Korea. Is anyone who is currently living in Korea doing this? According to all of the literature, Slingbox supposedly works "from anywhere in the world". But I'm curious about how true this claim is and/or how well it works. I'm also curious about how often you have conflict attempting to watch at the same time as the person whose cable you're tapping into back in the states. I know it seems like a pretty silly thing to put so much effort into being able to watch American television, especially since I don't watch a lot of television to begin with. But, for me, it's like a good bottle of wine or a sweet treat...something that I just like to have around for when I do want it.

Do it. Also, do some research on Daves for slingbox. I'm not being a "use the search function Nazi", I'm just trying to get your questions answered. It's been brought up a few times. Long story short: it works fine here.

Thanks! I'm sure there are discussions. But for what it's worth, my search feature is not working here. It hasn't since I first signed up for membership. It kind of sucks, actually.

I'm watching the NFL right now with my slingbox.
I have the Slingbox HD-Pro and I can watch one channel and my sister at home can be watching another channel. You can do this if you use the COAX input not the cable box input.
Top speed is about 1.8 MBps to Korea, probably limited by USA upload speeds.

Us this page for searching daves ESL:

The forum search function hasn't worked for 5 years.

Why do so many people have problems w/ search. Granted, its not all that intuitive, but it works.

I've had it for two years and love it. If your sister has DVR or TiVo, even better. The viewing conflicts aren't usually a big deal because of the time difference. Here's a pretty good explanation of the whole thing:
