there is a web site (google it) somewhere which tells about airport crashing - best places, security guard hassle factor, noise factor, etc.

Hong Kong airport isn't the best place to sleep, I found it got quite cool and VERY noisy.

There are two spots where you could essentially go, if you go out of immigration to where you would check in for a flight, there are rows of benches on the edges of the check in terminal. If you decide with this option, I'd get there early-ish and set up, it gets crowded at around 9pm or so and all the good spots are gone.

The other area would be a "rest area", within the departure terminals. These are the spots with the "recliner" chairs. This spot would almost be ideal as it isn't as crowded, but there is elevator music over the loud speakers and gets noisy with flights departing.

When I was there around 6 months ago they had construction going on throughout the night. Very frustrating. Hopefully they're done by now though!

Also, everything is closed until around 7am, so if you're going to be hungry, I suggest bringing some snacks with you or loading up before the shops close. I'd also bring a sweatshirt or small blanket, something to cover your eyes, and your mp3 player to drown out all the extra noise/ snoring.

I once booked a flight to Thailand via Hk and they were putting me up in a hotel for the night in Hk. When I got to Busan airport the lady at check in was like oh yaa hotel too expensive so we cancel it. I was like ok I will complain when I get to Hk but in Hk they wouldn't budge even though I did my best angry customer impression.

I made the mistake of already clearing customs and when I checked out hotel prices they were friggin huge. Tried the benches but had all my money in 10000 won notes in my pockets so didnt feel safe falling asleep. So paid too much for a 1st class lounge with food and soft chairs.

I friggin hate hk and its expensive hotels. I hate the friggin noisy airport that shuts down at like 11 pm. So many people sleeping there and so lit up and cold.

Dont clear customs and there is a hotel/lounge in there but it wont be cheap but at least you are safe inside customs.

I always arrive and go on the ferry to China for much better hotel deals but thats when I have a Chinse visa.

If you arrive early enough get a cheap hotel.

How long will you be in Hong Kong for? We flew in around 11pm and took a public bus into the city. We then went to a couple of a few bars and then took the am bus back to Hong Kong airport. Our flight left at 8am that morning. We slept on the flight.

There are lockers available for your bags or there is a luggage storage room. I don't remember which terminal. I think terminal 1 had the lockers and 2 had the luggage storage room. I could have that backwards though.

The bus was cheap into town and we had a great late night feast and an amazing early breakfast. We did the same on our way back to Korea too. I would do it again in a minute.

Thanks for the excellent suggestions. We finally opted on staying one more night in our hotel and caught a taxi at 5:30 AM. That worked out really well. I want to recommend the Silvermine Beach Hotel. It's a wonderful place that is quiet and the price is right. It's on Lama Island at Mui Wo~ next to the Ferry pier. We had an awesome time!
