My school just dropped an info bomb on me about 15 minutes ago. I'll need to teach a few extra classes this week--the first few of which are tomorrow. I'm pretty new to high school and do not have a book.

Can anyone help me out here with a lesson? I'm sure there are lessons many of you have used many times you could quickly post.

Much appreciated.

You could try eflclassroom.com, there's some "lessons in a can" there which may be suitable.
Depends on your teaching environment and the ability of the class though. You may need to be flexible about the content.
Maybe aim for having 2 or 3 things up your sleeve, should things go pear-shaped.

Check out www.breakingnewsenglish.com

Awesome, awesome website with thousands of canned lessons including worksheets ready for download, updated at least weekly, usually covering interesting current events and global news.

I highly recommend Andrew Finch's Activities to Help Teach with the High School Textbook.

Korean content, very communicative and with easy to print, use lessons. He even has some videos of students using the book and describing the lessons.
Find them HERE on EFL Classroom 2.0. Also in the Korea Resources, lots of other options.

Not a lesson plan, but an idea.
Since Halloween's coming up, why not something based around that?

Maybe bring in a pumpkin, draw on it, and show pictures or video. A Tim Burton clip would be fun. A scary song.

There's another thread on here with more ideas...

I'm sure you can figure out a way to work in some English in there as well.

I am doing one this week. Start with showing a short from one of the Simpsons Tree House of horror (maybe 5-6 minutes) then do some free discussion about what Halloween is ect then I have them write a scary story with a couple illustrations and then pic students to present their story to finish. Seems to be working fairly well.

This stuff works much better when you have classes arranged according to ability. With the high level students do a peer dictation. With low level groups play 20 questions

I'm a little frustrated myself right now. It seems like I could shoot a canon in my classroom and some of these kids would sleep right through the whole thing. Karaoke? They would give that the proverbial snowball's chance in Hades. Eminem? Like they can understand a word he is saying! My open class is next week and I am not feeling confident at all!

Have you tried the BBC Learning English website? It's got tons of resources for students and teachers, complete lesson plans with printable worksheets and audio files, activities, and loads of other materials that are useful for those last minute classes.
