Dongdaemun - it's the fabric district. I don't remember the exact exit, but if you're looking west from Dongdaemun (the actual gate) on the southwest side of the intersection, there is a parking lot next to a building. That complex of buildings is loaded with fabric. Also, on the south side of Cheongyecheon, those buildings are loaded with cloth too.

It's exit 9. Walk out of the exit and turn left, you can't miss it. If you want, PM me and I'd love to meet up with you sometime! I can show you some of my favorite booths.

Oooooh thanks sooo much guys!
NotinKS thanks for the offer! I'll just go there and have a look Smile

Do they let you bargain? Or should I just walk from shop to shop and just note down the price?

You won't be able to buy patterns here, you'll have to get them from home. I stocked up before I came, but you can also get the latest patterns at www.sewingpatterns.com You can download and then print out the pattern, then assemble it. They're a little expensive to download but good for instant gratification.

I haven't tried bargaining because their prices have been pretty reasonable. The most I've paid for one yard is maybe 5500 won, and it was a beautifully thick knit. If you know where to look you can get some fabric for as low at 1000 won a yard.
