Hi all,

My name is Charles and I'm a bit of a newbie here. I cannot describe how helpful the boards have been in guiding my decisions. On Thursday I'll be off to Cheonan-Si with the CEPIK program. I've heard it's a very small place so I'm wondering if anyone in Cheonan or who has been to Cheonan can tell me where all the foreigners hang out? I have no idea which school I'll be teaching at yet, but it'll be a government school. I'm also very young, so I'm wondering how the social life is there? (Any gay bars there?? Embarassed )

Any help appreciated Smile

Oh, and I'm a big fan of the search feature but couldn't find any useful info Sad

Hey I lived there last year. It's a relatively small city for Korea, and there aren't masses of foreigners, but you should make some friends easily.

There are a few places to go out but most foreigners congregate around the 'Terminal' area where the Yawoori department store/ cinema complex is. popular bars there include Metro, Groove Bar and Banana Bar.... all within that area. Decent restaurants/shopping can be found round there too.

As for gay bars... no. You'll have to go to Seoul for that. Being gay in Korea isn't easy (one of my friends in Cheonan is gay). Basically, never really mention it to any Korean unless you make good friends with them. There are definitely gay guys in Korea though, as much as they want to turn a blind eye to it! As for meeting partners... Craigslist is your friend Cool

I just arrived in Cheonan (Dujeong-dong, I think) from the U.S. I'm still working on figuring out exactly where I am in relation to everything. If anyone is in the area and would like to hang out, please let me know! I'd love to find some other foreigners that are more familiar with the area.

It's kinda far out. I lived in Pyeongtaek and visited Cheonan once. As a city, I liked it. However, it's haul from Seoul. You could still go into Seoul on weekends. Take a bus.

So, I would say use your job offer as the determining factor. If you have a good salary and it seems good, then it will be worth it. I stuck it out the full year in Pyeongtaek and I don't regret it.
