You'll see a vast improvement in web page load times and You Tube sort of videos buffering times.

DNS has nothing to do with video buffering times. DNS is name resolution. As soon as the name is resolved, its out of the equation.

I thought that too, read somewhere that google dns could improve you tube caching and it did.

I can't find the site I originally read this on, but this site is telling users to do something similar, but with opendns.

Here's another person advising to do this:

Here's a forum discussion:

Personally, I found that I could almost never watch you tube videos because of the constant buffering. I changed to google dns and kablam they now load as fast as hell. Might be a coincidence, but I doubt it as I had a cripplingly slow youtube experience for six months, changed the DNS and it's been fine ever since with the odd bad day.

Just because someone recommends it doesn't mean it's true. Lot's of people on the internet recommend incorrect things each day.

Unless youtube is somehow constantly resolving names while caching there is absolutely no technical reason changing your DNS servers would affect youtube streaming.

It's just not possible.

All a DNS server does is saying:
www.google.ca = 64.233.189.104

That's it. End of story.

Your computer turns around and caches that information for a period of time.

A slow DNS server is only going to make that initial resolution slow, that's it. Once it's resolved, your computer stops talking to it.

I had a perfect experience with them until I moved.
