Not like that!
One of my teachers in university lined up the entire class and took our pictures on the first day of class, and then made us write down our names so that he could learn who we were. It was strange, but it worked.
I am one of those people that cannot for the life of me remember names and faces, so I was wondering if it might be ok to do something like this when I start teaching and turn it into a little project for the students where they can make sort of a little dossier on themselves. Sort of a get to know you project.
I would definitely want to get the go ahead from my co-teacher and/or principal first, but I figured it would be a good idea to ask here first to see if it would even be a good idea to ask them.
We did stuff like this when I was in elementary school, but it seems like parents here are so paranoid that I don't know if it would be considered ok anymore or not. If it makes any difference, I'll probably be teaching middle or high school. |

I would not publish a photo of a student along with their name anyplace. Other than that, taking a normal photo of students doing typical student activities would not be considered inappropriate.
However, I would not worry too much about learning individuals names. Referring to an individual by name is not done in Korea like it is done in the West. Just call them student or a nickname for the ones you get to know. |

IIRC SMOE warned that teachers shouldn't ptublishpictures of students on Facebook or blogs, with or without names. |

Yeah, the other poster who said there's no way you'll remember the kids' names, and that it's ok, is right... the Korean teachers don't, either. You might have a student list to refer to, and you can call on students that way. It's perfectly ok to go through the list and call on Student 1, 2, 3, etc... even just saying "Student 1" instead of reading the name is ok, if you can't read hangul. It really is
BUT... you still could do a photo project if you wanted. Korea is very photo oriented and nobody would think it's weird, unless if you only took photos of guys or only girls or something. |

There is probably something like a class project about individuals in their homeroom. Their register book will probably also have all the students passport size pics with their names on near the cover.
Students respond better in class when you know their names. |

+100000.
Unfortunately, I'm bad with names. Especially Korean names. But it's absolutely true that if you can call students by their names they will respond better. |

Use a table plan to remember students' names(so long as they don't move around too much, of course for certain activities you'll want them shift seats). If you still want to go for the photo idea try to involve your co-teacher and explain the reasons you are doing it. Certainly get permission first. |
