Google around the world tickets. Also, you can try "One-World" which is one group of airlines that will allow you to book tickets on each different airline (depending on where you are traveling) as part of one R-T-W ticket. You'll have to google for other airline alliances that do the same thing. Have an itinerary ready, with rough dates, when you call them. They will want to put together an itinerary all at once. You may be able to change it in the future, with certain restrictions/and or fees. Be aware that you will have to be a little bit flexible with your dates.
Also, bear in mind that, depending on how many flights you want to take, it may be cheaper and easier to use internal airlines in some places rather than the around the world ticket (ie, if you want to jump around SE Asia, look into Air Asia or something, because the larger airlines may not go point to point and will want you to fly back to their hubs needlessly).
For the One World Alliance, you must be continually moving in the same direction (you cannot back track) and you have 12 months to complete your trip. They have dropped the number of flights down to 16 total in 2008, but they may have adjusted since then. Have fun! |

I just started a blog about this. There's only 4 posts--one of them has a link to an excellent website about this. |

Keep in mind that it can also be cheaper to just book one way tickets.
Especially if you plan on back tracking or anything of the sort as many RTW tickets require you to continue traveling in one direction E-W or W-E, etc.
I considered buying a RTW ticket for a trip in '08 but ended up doing one way tickets and saving about 2000 USD.
For some trips an RTW trip is all well and good, but for other trips there are better options.
I've used airtreks.com to plan routes and devise what was the cheapest method of flying from one place to another (different hubs, etc.) but when I dealt with them they were fairly useless. Anyway, in case you want to have a look. |
