A few messages back, in this very thread. gi66y said he bought a new computer for a million and there there should be cheaper ones around, and you gave him a rolling-eyes icon.

If your window can not scroll up, I can link to it directly if you would like.

i have made the mistake of confusing a laptop and a desktop before.. i'll say it, i was wrong saying that price was robbery, i didn't realize the dell was a laptop. the op did not request a laptop btw. the prices i gave were genuine for a desktop which was the ops request. i never specified laptop anywhere.

Whoa, let's slow down and see just what you're tring to spin here.

1. Ok, you were wrong to compare laptop and desktop prices. Ok, with you so far.
2. Ok, the OP didn't request a laptop. Great. He also didn't request a desktop. Or even a Wintel PC, perhaps he would be just as happy with a Mac. So because you decided that he was talking about a Wintel desktop, that everyone else must now to?
3. Great, you quoted that you can get a used PC of unknown specs for a lower price than a new PC, of which the new PC you were trash-talking was well under the price line the OP expressed concern over.
4. You never specified laptop? A guy says he is willing to sell his laptop and mentions what they have sold for on eBay. You turn around and say that it is overpriced because you can buy a new system for a million. You failed to mention that you decided to compare apples to oranges, so the conversation was still focused on oranges.

your failure to understand that i was trash talking kazaa voids your point number 3. this should have been painfully obvious as my whole entry was about file sharing and not 1 thing mentioned in that post about price.

And by the way...regarding the original subject of this thread...I have a 497 MHz Dell Latitude CPx Pentium 3 with 256 MB RAM and a 30G harddrive. It has an ATI Rage Mobility Graphics Card (manufacturer) and I use Realone Player or WinAmp to play media files...hey it's not going to turn many heads but it does all I want: it's portable, exandable and I've seen these things going for $750.00 on E-Bay. I am sure you'll find the equivalent in Seoul. Cable internet...33, 000/month. And I use (obviously) kazaa lite K++ but do try Overnet if your having trouble finding TV programs.

this is what i'm getting at..you are just inventing shit. where does he say he is willing to sell his laptop? he doesn't.

i said that price was robbery when i thought it was a desktop... i never said 'because' anywhere there. if i remove that quote and 'is robbery' the post would make perfect sense. the 1,000,000 won was next in line after the 300,000 and the 500,000 suggestions

If you wanted to do the insult about Kazaa, why did you post it up after gi66y mentioned the price of getting a computer?

Oh, I do. In fact, in this very post I will admit I made a mistake. I don't pretend to be perfect, just very impressive.

Counter-argument: Why aren't you talking about getting a used 266Mhz-P2 with a 4 gig drive and 256 Ram with a 14" monitor for 100,000 Won or less?

Though technically, it was "I want to pay the minimum" and "what will it cost me", not "the cheapest possible option". Macs are easy to use and have fewer headaches as they are a closed system, so why not discuss the option of picking one up? They aren't that much more expensive especially after others here are saying that considering a Celeron processor isn't an option.

See above picture where you placed your "trash talking" right under the price declaration.

Oh, you got me. He wasn't going to sell. My fault. Granted, absolutely nothing to do with your lambasting a laptop's higher cost over a desktop, but a victory for you none the less. Congratulations. After all these years of dreaming, your dream has come true of catching me making a mistake.

Fine, you made a mistake. We accept this. But now you are holding the line with "because"? Pro-tip sweetheart: exchanging the period with the word "because" does not change the meaning of your pseudo-paragraph.

All I'm doing is quoting what you are saying in a thread were you decided to start insulting the advice of others with bad advice of your own. If you don't want me "making you look bad", then don't type it.

The only silly thing I've done is spend too much time replying and showing you what everyone else already sees. But that's ok, I had to do something before I went to work. You can still come to my place in August for my birthday and have ice cream cake.

1. Suprnova is really crackin' right now.

2. Why is it that Dell sells its Latitude line in Korea, but not Inspiron? I missed the Michael Dell visit to Seoul, else I would have asked him.

3. Gordon, my birthday is in August too! Let's have a big party together.

Amen to Kazza lite...all of the benefits with none of the spyware, but it can be hard to find...here's a link.

Get down to Yongsan and buy a computer...I paid just over a million for a top of the line model(they delivered and installed in Ilsan the next day)...there's gotta be used models for cheaper...

I have a version of kazaa lite where everything's free, it has no spyware, it searches endlessly for files, you can preview files as they're being downloaded so that you can cancel them if they're the wrong file...I think it's perfect. Any movie that I want - except for The Jerk - I can usually find. Someone mentioned searching for Cheech and Chong in a different thread...after 30 seconds on kazaa lite, I've found 11 complete movies, and 22 miscellaneous shows.

news for you huck... there are only 6 or 7 movies credited as cheech and chong movies.. there are are few more with them acting together although those movies were never credited as cheech & chong movies and there are others but they have only been written by either cheech or chong &/or 1 or the other as a co-star.. they have been assistants on several more.. so when you say you found 11 complete movies... i assume you mean 11 complete files shared cuz there aren't 11 movies listed as cheech & chong in the world.

lets look at winmx again.... today, right now... there are 6 full movies.. the ones listed as cheech and chong movies. (not to mention all the miscellaneous and smaller files or cd1s and cd2s) this was after 5 seconds

and there are 167 full files shared

thats using 5 open nap networks as well... open nap? whats that you say?

learn how to use the thing properly before you compare

I've tried the others, but as far as finding what I want from numerous users, Kazaa Lite is easily the best. Plus when it downloads a file, it adds together everyone you're downloading from, which - when I used WinMX in the past - makes it a lot faster than WinMX and the old Napster...

for years now winmx has been using multiple user downloads.

Quote:
If you want it, PM me...but make sure you've completely deleted the old kazaa from your hard drive.

don't bother... it is *beep*

EDIT: there are 13 users sharing full files of the jerk on winmx

you kazaa guys should take off the blinkers. it like you are saying win 3.1 is just the greatest program.. it is probably cuz ya don't know how to work win 2k.

there is another program around called bit torrent - do a search on here to see how to install and use it..

ummm... thats just silly...it was more than obvious that i was talking about kazaa. cutting out a tiny portion of my post and abusing me for something you misunderstood is not my fault.

d/ling tv and movies on a 266 with a 4gb hdd and watching them on a 14" monitor doesnt seem very practical. i dont understand macs so i would not go off telling somebody about how good they were.

it was also under kazza.. use your brain mate. if i have quoted somebody quoting another talking about kazaa then saying that kazaa is great amen, then to quote a bunch of other quotes on kazaa and then to crap on for ages about file sharing with not 1 word on prices a blind man could see where the eyes were directed.

yes. but there is also a fine line between making a mistake and missing the point also creating an argument based on something you misunderstood.

I am holding the line with

a) something to do the job 300,000
b) p4 500,000
c) a current system 1,000,000 with all the bells, whistles and warrenty

the only thing i insulted was some peoples idea was that kazaa was the be all and end all.
i also said a price was robbery. then after understanding it properly, i promptly admitted i was wrong.

it seemed i needed to go into depth to explain the obvious.

i am at odds to understand my nitpicks. i am at odds to understand your logic here, it is just crazy. explain 1 of my nitpicks?

each of my so called nitpicks were defence of exact (invented) points used to attack me.

Well, here's what I'd recommend (assuming you haven't bought your machine yet.)

Yongsan or Technomart are the best places to buy from. Either one will serve your needs, it's just a matter of personal preference. Yongsan might be a bit cheaper, but TM seems to be a tad less shady. However, you'll be able to find good deals either way.

Now, if you are really just buying this solely for the purpose of downloading TV and nothing else, then pretty much any NEW computer you buy will suit your needs.

I went computer shopping for a friend of mine back in September so my information is a few months old. However, prices stay relatively the same, but the computers will be better now.

Most of the vendors have package deals that start around 350,000 won and go up from there. This price includes computer, keyboard, mouse, etc. but no monitor. Tack on an extra 150-200,000 won for a 17 inch monitor. Oh, you might be able to find a good deal on a used monitor if you look around. I got a used 19 inch monitor for 130,000 in Yongsan that worked great.

Now, for 350,000 won you aren't going to get a blazing fast machine, but it'll do business applications and internet just fine. I'd recommend upgrading to a bigger hard drive, since the ones on the package deals usually aren't real big, and you'll need the space eventually.

So, probably, with monitor included, you'll be looking at around 500-600,000 depending on which bells and whistles you add to the base configuration.

Now, on to internet service.

Korea has excellent broadband service in my opinion. I personally haven't had a problem with my internet in the 2 years I've been here. Download speed from your ISP isn't really a factor since it's pretty hard to max out your bandwidth.

So, sites to download tv and movies from. Personally, I use bit torrent for pretty much all my movie and tv needs. The site I go to is www.suprnova.org.

Now, your download speeds will vary, but I've downloaded a full length movie in under 2 hours. Popular TV shows can be downloaded in under an hour though, and that is fairly typical for newer episodes.

Well, that's it for now, good luck.
