I'm not sure if any of you have the same problem that I have with my hagwon (Olympiad/OLA) in which they tell you the semester will be 11-12 weeks when in reality they are 15-16 and you find this out a week before the semester ends after you have already finished your workbook. I've got 4 classes in which I have this problem and I need more material I can teach them. I've got misc. worksheets that I can do each class and some other material copied from other workbooks but the students don't like them so I'd like to do something a little more interesting for them. Anyone have any ideas for work that would take 45 min to an hour each class for the next 6 weeks? These are all speaking classes for 6th grade.

The first thing - I think when I read your post - PLEASE DO MY WORK FOR ME. Second thing I think - are you incompetent or useless.? Ok your schedule says 12 weeks and goes an extra 3 or 4. What have you been doing those 12 weeks. Was everything handed/planned for you and finally you have to start doing some planning you are panicking. Good god man this what one thing teacher is expected to do is to plan.

Use google. Search the Internet. There is tonnes of stuff. If you want a bit more focus search just search eflcafe. ALso look for EFL 2.0 site. Good place with tonnes of resources.

I mean I taught my students today - Why don't you.... and using your brains to solve a problem. I am hungry. Why don't you eat or why don't you start a diet

Using my brain storming skills for 5 minutes.
....

Why don't you review! That is good for about another week or two. Go over and over again. Reviewing really helps.

Why don't you give them a test. If you already gave one, give a one on one verbal test you can really stretch that out for a class or two.

Play a board game like scrabble. Save that for the last week as a treat.

Have a party! Buy some cheap pizzas and some cola and have a little sit down and chat time.

Do a project. Like design a poster related to last few months study.

Spend one period just talking with them. Think up some questions and basic topics.

Print out a bunch of worksheets, hidden pictures, find a words and that.

Play some white board games like hangman, bingo, pictionary, tonnes more available on the Internet.

------------

There. I mean I am a horrible planner and I usually shoot of the cuff teach. But using my brain power it is not so hard to plan something.

Yes you do have to keep the children happy. But do you have to keep then completely satisfied. Of course they kids are not going to like reviewing or having a test but tough luck your first job is to teach them.

Good Luck.

Someone is upset. Maybe you should QQ a little harder. All our lives we are taught to ask questions, and when we do babies like yourself come up with insane nonsense to tear people up with.

Actually I am on a role. Does his school not have teaching materials. I mean at all the many schools I taught. They all had huge booksshelves full of books. True some where old esl books and non conversation like reading or writing. Other where in Korean, but I always found a few good gems.

Second if he lives in a medium sized or larger city there has got to be some good English or English/ESL book store. Go out on the weekend. Peruse the books find something that will work for you. They will have some good activity and worksheet books too. True you might have to spend some of your money. If he is lucky the school might reimburse him. But the money still might be well spent. You have to spend money to make money.

With a little creativity, a lot of things can be adapted for use without a computer. For example, if you are supposed to use a movie clip, you can go to IMDB and print out that part of the film script and have your kids read the different parts. It's not rocket science.

Also try Breaking News English, ESL Kids, and not only is EFL classroom a good site, but the links page is a gold mine!

You are a teacher. Perhaps you could make your own. You have had 11-12 weeks to learn the level of your class. Good luck.

Wow, I think maybe some people misunderstood what I was trying to get from this thread. Obviously there are TONS of ESL websites and material out there, I was just looking for recommendations for ones that people have done with their students and had a positive responses. I have already found lots of resources using mad libs, music, various worksheets, etc. I am not looking for people to "do my work for me," just recommendations.

No computer? Make posters, they can use up a LOT of time. Break students into teams and have them do "team posters" which include members' names, favorite classes, and future jobs.

Or... funny show and tell. Everyone brings a photo from kindergarten to show. Prepare questions/ talking points.

Hey, I used to work at a hogwan where everything was prepared and we weren't supposed to play games or "waste time" (we were just supposed to "do the book)...... so if something happened where (gasp) we ran out of material, we weren't really in the habit of finding something to do.

Good luck, OP

Yeah, me too. I just used any extra time, like another poster said, to review and quiz. Hand out stickers for good scores, which are always a winner.
