Hey guys,
Have you had any experience with any mobile dictionary for Android or Iphone that you could recommend? Even one for mac/pc would be helpful.
Mainly I want a dictionary that shows words in context (sentences) with various examples if possible. Thanks guys. |

This one for iPhone is a joy! Just be careful, because 1.6.3 doesn't seem to work on the new(er) iphone firmware.
I even use it on iPad, since even without a proper Korean keyboard (even with the Korean keyboard hack I use), you can still draw the Korean words using your finger. |

| I have "Korean English Dictionary by Cole Zhu," which I'm not completely satisfied with. It's usually more convenient just to go to naver.com in Safari than to use that one, but it was only $6 I think. |

It's because he just buys his dictionary content from who knows who.
YBM is at least made by someone who has a vested interest in the subject.
They do a great job of responding to e-mails and considering feature requests.
I've had it for about a year and recommend it to everyone I know with an iphone. It's an enormous help in basic translation and language learning because of the extensive examples it gives in both languages. Cole Zhu fails on utter basics like verb endings. I emailed him a year ago and he said he was looking to get another source for content, but here we are a year later and his dictionary doesn't even have an English translation of ㅂ니다. Most people at least don't need that, but the other more complicated verb endings are much more required. |

Anyone have BOTH YBM and DongA?
Is DongA the 2nd best after YBM? I have YBM right now and I'm as serious as it gets when it comes to Korean studying. Wondering if it's worth it to shell out another $14.99 for the DongA even if I have YBM.
Even though money isn't a concern since it's a cheap investment, I still don't want to buy an app that I won't be using at all (if it's that much inferior to YBM). I use an electronic dictionary that has DongA on it, but the references are a bit outdated compared to YBM. Still, because I've spent so much time using it it's a bit more familiar to me than YBM is right now.
What I'm asking is, if you have both YBM and DongA, is DongA useful to you at all or are you just strictly on YBM? |

| YBM is pretty comprehensive. I can't imagine the other one offering a whole heck of a lot beyond what YBM could offer. If you know someone with it, maybe hit them up to test drive it. |

The thing I like about the dongA dictionary on my e-dictionary is that it looks up words as you type the characters in. YBM only looks it up until you complete each 'complete (korean) word' so in that sense dongA looks it up in quicker real time.
Don't know if that makes any sense but I found YBM to be annoying in that aspect as I'll miss some words even if I'm a little off which I wouldn't with dongA. |

I'm not sure, but it only shows results for which it actually matches a part of a word
ㅎ shows nothing because no korean words begin with only ㅎ
if you typeㄹ on the other hand you'll get results because there are several verb endings that start with only ㄹ
하 gets you a ton of results because many words contain 하
한 likewise gets you tons of results because many words contain that
한ㄱ gets you nothing, because again ㄱ can't appear on its own
what results does the other dictionary show in those instances?
is it perhaps just that your dictionary doesn't blank the results when you type the ㄱ? |

I guess this is where I mean the dongA seems to have a better set up than the YBM in that it searches to the 'closest' word even if its incomplete.
For example, say you type in 한ㄱ then the result will show with the closest match to a word that has starts with 한ㄱ. What it does is basically take you to that part of the list in the dictionary.
It might not seem important but there's a lot of times I'll misspell a word or need a very similar typed word. Can't think of any examples now, but it's just one of those things that was hard to get used to with the YBM as opposed to the dongA. |

ahokay, I follow you. I guess I tend to only translate written words I can see and not try and guess with my poor spelling so I never really noticed that |
