I just started a job near HUFS in Northern Seoul this week and I'm conflicted about moving out here as it seems a little ghetto here coming from Ilsan.

Can someone tell me cool things to do around this area? Shopping districts?

Also, this is a general question, but is there a good online site to find housing other than Craigslist? I may be interested in living near Hyehwa or Jongro to make the commute from Ilsan less taxing.

There is good Chinese hot pot near HUFS. Don't remember the name of the restaurant nor the location but it was delicious.

Don't search for housing online, go to the local real estate offices, they have the best deals and you can easily negotiate.

I live nearby. It's not as shiny as Ilsan, but I found Ilsan dull and suburban (though it's just a personal preference). Kyung Hee University (going towards Hoegi station) has a shopping/eating/drinking district, and HUFS has a small one of its own.

I think Hyehwa would be a nice place to live, and its not far from HUFS. You can take the 273 bus from HUFS to Hyehwa station in probably 20-30 minutes.

Down the road a bit from KyungHee (about five minutes from HUFS) directly in front of the Korea Institute for Weapons (Next to KAIST) across the street, is one of the best authentic Chinese restaurants in Seoul.

There is also a big forest preserve park (only open weekends) that you can hang out at and get away from the city noise. It's located at a three way intersection just down the street from KyungHee the second light down the hill. (You'd be heading in the direction of Korea University).

There is also a famous Kings grave temple site there on the same side of the road. I'd skip this, because there wasn't that much to see.

I'd like to know that also.

I actually enjoy the HUFS area quite a bit. I don't know why, I just think it has a nice atmosphere. And there are some good, cheap restaurants. Don't know names though.

The name of the place is "PAL-SON-SANG" pretty famous, there's one in Apkujong and or Myongdong as well.

What's left of it anyway. They've been whittling it down since early 2000's.

The red light district is at Cheongnyangni, two stations away from HUFS (but yes, I guess it's something to do in the area).

That area has gotten much better over the past couple of years. There are some good restaurants and bars, and while it's still pretty dirty (trash along the narrow sidewalk, spit stains galore), it's better than it used to be.
