I just got an email today from the RCMP. I was writing to check the status of my application. They informed me:
CFSS processes more than 15,000 criminal record searches each month. The processing time is currently in excess of one hundred and twenty (120) days from receipt of an application.
So even though their website says it take can a few weeks if they find nothing, that is not true.
I ordered mine as it is still unclear what will happen to those people who change schools or renew their contracts starting 2011.
Just wanted to give a heads up on their turn around time for those who are taking their time like I did (which I regret...going to be cutting it close:S |

For those who check the RCMP web-page it has (for the last 5 years or so anyway) that a check will take around 120 days (the much complained about 4 months).
Not news to anyone who has been here for any length of time.

It can upto 6 months to complete. However, if you have a clean record and they are not swamped with applications, my local police officer said it can be completed in about 8 weeks. But just because it can doesn't mean that it will.
If you have not started it yet, I highly recommend getting your finger check done ASAP. |

Mine was completed in about 7 days. I filled out the application at the local RCMP and they told me to come back in about a week. It was fast and simple.
Maybe it is because I had it done in a smaller town.
Just my experience. |

The new requirements won't take effect for people renewing until 2012. But yes it sucks for people who are in Canada and the states now. I thought up in Canada it only took a short while.
If anything this will have the market back to an employees market for a short while (this happened last time they changed the E2 regulations)
You still have tons of people applying to teach, but schools won't be able to readily pick who they want all at once because of people waiting for the necessary documents. |

theres a difference between getting one done at your local rcmp detachment and getting one done through the main RCMP office in Ottawa which requires fingerprints etc. |

I also didn't need to submit my fingerprints. I got my Criminal Record Check in September or so, and I just completed the Vulnerable Sector Search form and I had no problems. It was ready in about a week. |

This is on the website of the RCMP that states if you have no hits then it doesn't take the four months (Also depends on other factors).
Civil Fingerprinting Screening Services
Fingerprint-based Criminal Record Checks are processed within approximately two to three weeks unless there is a link to a criminal record, in these instances it may take up to 120 days to process the request.
So their website is misleading because their turnaround time have been 120 days as of late.
For those of you who just got your visa, the new changes apply in 2011 to have a national check. For Canada, it is unknown if we need the RCMP check or if we can use a local check that runs through the national database (better to be safe than sorry). |
