That reminds me of how I collected toe lint as a child.

For the person doing the collecting I'm sure it doesn't appear strange
at all.

I know that my hobby has been labled "odd" and "strange" but for me
it's something I thoroughly enjoy and it brings an odd sort of thrill and it's
been enlighting and educating. But like any hobby a person choses,
it isn't cheap or easy. It can be quite expensive, difficult and even down-
right trying physically, mentally and financially but if it's something
that ignites a certain passion and encourages a person to use their minds and imagination then I say, "Go for it!"

I wonder if there's a reason for the OP starting such a thread.

A little off topic, but one of my biggest, uh, irks I guess is
that many people don't have a hobby of some sort. Hobbies keep people
focused and occupied rather than sitting in front of a computer or tv screen all the damn time.

when i was living in china, my co worker told me a funny story. he used to sleep on the bottom bunk. every night he'd pick his nose and wipe his boogers on the bottom of the top bunk. he said he had a decent collection of boogers there. then one day he came home from school and he saw his mom crying in his bed with a spatula, scraping off his boogers. the story made me lol.

I used to collect condiment packets that they give out in fast food restaurants. I had hundreds from all over the world. I think I lost them when I came to Korea.

I like to collect bookmarkers. I have a nice little collection from
various countries, famous sites and museums as well as some given
to me as a gift.

The trully odd thing is that with all those bookmarkers, I never use them
for their intended purpose. I usually end up using whatever is close at
hand such as a gum wrapper, a receipt, scrap paper or even a stir stick
from a coffee shop while I read. Go figure....

Great hobby, I always wanted to start but never had the cash or the time to get focused. I collect books about the era, have a bookshelf back home filled with books about the Napoleonic era.

Now you can buy them on e-bay. Either painted or unpainted. If you plan to paint them yourself it's a real skill. If you plan to paint the metal ones you need to coat them with some kind of primer. I also have Tolkien stuff from 1979 when they put the movie out in an animation form.

I just love The Hussars, most mounted cavalry will cost you more but it is well worth the extra cash. I also have some redcoats both Highlanders, and Grenediers.

Here's a sample ratkill report:

I started stalking this "king rat," baiting the station every night and waiting by the bedroom window to take my shot. The first few nights, the possum who we named "Henry" sauntered down the tree trunk and made off with whatever I had left out there, making me wonder if I had imagined the huge rat. But on the third night, my suspicions were confirmed as the guest of honor showed. As he made his way down the tree trunk warily, I marveled at his size. He was round and fat, like an overstuffed dufflebag, and beady eyed, like a Beverly Hills chihuahua. I started to cock my rifle. The dogs, knowing there was action on it's way, began barking. The rat spooked and ran back up the tree. He disappeared into the upper canopy, a missed opportunity.

I cursed my luck and began obsessively plotting the shot. I went on line and researched the cost of having a rat mounted by a taxidermist. Amidst protests from my girlfriend, I set up a sniper camp in our bedroom, waiting for his return. Two nights later I got my chance.

Nice!

I used to collect things. Nothing for awhile. Semi-interesting story: When I was a kid I used to collect scented candles. Well, really, I collected a LOT of things but this story is about the candles. One day my mom was making soup and left the heat turned up too high when she went out. I came home to an empty house full of smoke, judged that the situation was minor enough to enter the BURNING BUILDING despite everything I'd been taught, and turned off the stove before going to a neighbor's house. No permanent damage except to the pot which melted, and my candle collection, which my dad liberated from my room while I was at school the next day to help with the smell. He burned them all. Crying or Very sad

I think that might have actually been when I stopped collecting things. Thanks, Dad. I didn't need all that **** anyway.

I must admit some of the minor German armies of the period have some amazing uniforms, the kingdom of Westphalia's Garde du Corps would be a great figure to have, my problem would be that I would want too many.

Serious collectors will always choose quality over quantity. You're best bet would be to buy figures either individually or in sets. You don't even need tons of soldiers to make a good diorama. I've seen great diorama's made with just two or three soldiers.
