So apparently the ridiculous laws that Korea has implemented in order to get a new E-2 visa over the years have finally come back and bit them in the a**. "Out of nearly 1000 EPIK teaching positions only 262 complete sets of applications have been received." - Footprints

Even though this is just ONE recruiting company (and I know there are many), I am under the impression that this is one of the biggest ones that recruits for EPIK teachers. I hope that the government isn't able to fill all the positions for EPIK due to the new immigration laws and realizes that other countries which are much more attractive to go to don't have these obnoxious restrictions and stipulations.

On a further note, who really DREAMS of going to KOREA in the first place. Most people end up here because of the benefits, and in my case end up staying longer than they planned because once they get here they realize this place is awesome - that is beside the fact, though. And I don't mean to shed a negative light on Korea, I just think the immigration laws that seem to change every six months to a year are absurd.

Yes, but ever- changing Policy trends' are a part of every society.
It's just government hiearachy that's all.
Even worse in America.

Dreams? I don't think may people consider Korean ESL the ideal "life dream". However, it's a good starting point tostart expanding out those monetary resources.

Oh, yeah and the food is pretty good, too.

oops, I meant to write that it was still early and they have plenty of time (was thinking it but I forgot to write it). Obviously there is a shortage compared to last year at this same time or I wouldn't have gotten that information, though. Anyway, Ive always thought the ever-changing laws were funny so I figured I would voice my opinion on the issue. To the one who said that I don't know what I am talking about - I never meant to imply that I am an omnipresent God (some could argue lol) who is all knowing about immigration laws, or the time that all EPIK positions get filled in Korea, I just wanted to post my two cents regarding the new immigration laws and how those laws are producing a direct effect on the number of applicants that can apply to Korea ...some people would say that's a good thing I guess though, more jobs for us ^^

It's become harder to get into Korea. That's a good thing, it weeds out all the frat boys and underachievers, so the rest of us can party in relative peace.

Countering forces, poor economic times in the countries that are allowed visas to teach English vs new stricter rules on what it takes to get a visa. I think it will mostly come down to a timing issue, meaning there will be plenty of applicants for the jobs, it will just take longer, more lead time matching applicants with the jobs.

262 for one recruiter at this point does not seem high, but it does not seem too awfully low either. You can expect the rate of completed applications to increase dramatically over the next few weeks as CRC, etc. are completed.

I think all the jobs will be filled for the upcoming school year, I just think you may see EPIK and such wave some people from the requirement to attend orientation and / or start their first day of teaching a few weeks into the school year. That is what I did my first year teaching in Korea.
