Hey All,

I recently accepted a university contract after being out of the contract for a year. I'll need to get my visa in Japan (I'm on a tourist visa enjoying the company of my fiancee here in Korea) after getting the issuance number, but I'm wondering how far ahead of my contract start date I'm able to do this. 1 week? 2? More? Anyone have some input or experience with this?

Thanks!
J7

Sorry, I don't have the answer but I do have the same question. I'm trying to get my school to process my visa before Jan. 1st so I don't have to wait on my FBI check but am not sure if that's too far before my start date for immigration to do it.

Anyone know the answer?

You can do it any time AFTER the visa confirmation number is issued.
The confirmation number is only good for 90 days from issue (so you need to get your visa within 90 days) and your visa is good for 90 days before it expires (you need to enter Korea within 90 days of visa issuance).

IF you get your visa and enter Korea before you start work you need to be aware of:

a) You still need to get your ARC within 90 days of entry on your E2
(so you need to be working, have your medical and confirmation from your employer). If you are really early this will put a rush on this part of the process.

b) your ARC will expire before your contract ends so you will need to get an extension to complete your contract (not hard to do but must be done).
