From what I remember, it's written as ȫԱ on the subway map. I think more Koreans know it by Hongik, as opposed to Hongdae.
It's on the green line, and it's between Shinchon and...Hapjeong? It's stop #239. |

I usually take a cab. The main action is a bit of a hike from the subway I think (unless there's a stop or exit I don't know about). Just say "Hongdae" to the cab driver, he knows where you're going. |

Well, there is a closer stop to the action. Sangsu, I think? Stop #623, on line 6. |

I used to live around there and I'm absolutely positive that it's closest to Hongik University stn. on line 2. I can't remember the exit #, but it's the western-most one going up the hill. |

yup, Line 2 (Green), Hongik University, Exit 6. The western exit of Sangsu will get you there mighty quick too.
To get to the interesting part you will have to find the main gate (jeong-mun) of the university. It's across the road from the park, and there's a map board there with the locations of all the most popular clubs, cafes etc. |

The full name of the area is Hong Ik University
In Korean, University is "Dae Hak Gyo"
Take the first two syllables of Hong Ik and Dae Hak Gyo and you get Hong Dae
this applies to all schools.
Seoul University - Seo Dae
Yeon Sei U - Yeon Dae
E Hwa U - E Dae
and so on. hope this helps |
