It is terrible for the teeth, though, so make sure to brush or at least chew some sugarless gum and drink some water after you finish. It's not a long-time-sipping drink either. Drink it and rinse those teeth.
I've mentioned this before, but meth mouth and mountain dew mouth are very similar (and often found in the same people).
Did you ever do the baby tooth in a cup of cola experiment? Creepy! |
Why? Carbonic acid in sodas, citric acid in fruit juice, any acid/base we eat will do that. The key is no one ever soaks their teeth in cola for weeks at a time. Try the same thing with healthy orange juice or a lemon and you'll get the same result - an acid etched tooth. |
True. I don't really bombard my teeth with acidic foods on a regular basis. Basically a few oranges a week (better the whole fruit than juice) and some wine on weekends. |

NYC_Gal knows all and is all, best not to question her for she is above us all. |
Dude, why the hate? I never said any such thing. Nobody's infallible. Maybe you don't like farmer's market produce and certain lifestyle choices that I prefer, but neither is better, just a matter of preference.
Here's a fun thing on Mountain Dew Mouth to sparkle up your morning:

Just to add to this, it isn't all roses and bidets that squirt petals - despite my efforts (years ago), I can't bulk up or get muscular, so there are downsides to it. |
Why would you bulk up or get muscular? You said it yourself you don't exercise. If you eat a lot of meat and then weight train hard enough you will gain muscle. Your body will adapt to the stress and it will add muscle. If not you didn't put your CNS, muscles, tendons, ligaments, and skeleton under enough stress. |

Reminds me of the classic DIY Canadian cure for stomach aches used around the country - a glass of flat ginger ale. |
Nowadays I think it's mostly a placebo because the ginger in ginger-ale is just synthetic. but real ginger calms stomachs. If you can find some organic ginger-ale give it a try. I used to get some stuff back in canada that had 17g of ginger in a 355 ml bottle. |

Mmm I wish I could find the real stuff here. |

Apparently brushing your teeth after drinking acidic drinks is doing more harm than good. The acid softens the teeth which makes brushing damage the teeth much more than usually. I always wonder if this is why my teeth are much healtier than my Korean lab mate's teeth even though they brush their teeth 3 times a day and I brush mine once a day.
The first source I could find which supports it:
Toothbrush Abrasion of Erosively Altered Enamel after Intraoral Exposure to Saliva: An in situ Study, Caries research Vol. 33, No. 6, 1999
T. Jaeggi, A. Luss |
This is interesting, thanks for posting it. |

I don't see what's funny about it. No different than someone 30+ who enjoys coffee with double cream and double sugar. Or a coffee drinker who buys mochafrappchino with extra syrup, whipped cream, and whale sperm.
We all have something we like. If having a sweet tooth makes one juvenile, then Korea must be the most juvenile country in the world.

god man, live a little. |
Funny Carbonated sugar drinks are my only vice these days, too. I'm not stressing myself out about it, but if after a hard day I *need* a bottle of Chilsung, well... that's ok.
It is a little funny being a 30+ adult who *really* likes soft drinks. |

I'm one of the few people I know that doesn't have a sweet tooth.
Anything in excess can be bad for you coke, coffee, green tea. Caffeine requires more water to process. Most people that drink drinks with a lot of caffine rarely drink enough water.
I love the people who say I eat this much, smoke this much, drink this much, and I'm healthy. Because you're thin gives no indication you are healthy. |

when i eat certain foods, i crave a soda. like, if i'm eating a burger, i can't drink water or juice with it. a good soda washes it down perfectly. same goes for pizza.
actually, sometimes a good beer goes well with a burger, but i'm not a big drinker. |

I brush and rinse with Act when I get up.
After lunch, I rinse with water, chew some sugarless gum, and brush, floss, and rinse with Act about 30 min after that.
After dinner, I rinse with water, then chew some sugarless gum.
Before bed, I brush, floss, and rinse with Act.
I've done this for years, and I only had my first cavity at 23. I've only had a few since, and they've all been back molars.
My only beverage vice is the honey and milk in my tea, but I limit that to my .5L thermos every morning. It's too good to go without.
But, as I said, in moderation and with proper caution, cola's fine. |

I drink coke every single day. Brush my teeth three times a day, eat candy and other sugar foods. Rarely floss and I have no cavities. My teeth are awesome. |

My teeth are an embarrassment. I'm Canadian, but I have classic British teeth. I hate the dental exam for the E2 renewal... I always "pass", but always with a lot of well-deserved criticism about my teeth. I should go to the dentist, but it's almost like it's such a lost cause... I'm sort of looking forward to them falling out so I can get falsies. |

Bohol Diver, you sound just like me. I pretty much live a straight edge lifestyle. Minimal drinking, no smoking, no drugs, no coffee. I exercise everyday. Like you, I consider soda(I am a cherry coke fanatic) as my only real vice in life. I've tried to reduce, but it is hard to do and, quite frankly, I'm not really motivated to do it. I think it is because my health is pretty good and I don't suffer from some of the problems that others have(such as weight gain). Glad to know that there is someone else out there like me. Cheers. |

Machoman has it right! I don't like to just drink soda, but it's fun to pair with burgers or pizza. I don't care what other people drink, but I just can't have soda. I get all sugar buzzed. I prefer my addiction to caffeine (dark coffee) and alcohol. Those make me feel grown-up and fancy! |
