| Noraebang is abundant, but I like to sing in public, in front of the whole bar. Any places in Seoul that have this? |

| You'll probably have to hit Gangnam for that, and it won't be that fun. If I were you, hop on over to the Philippines -- it's a karaoke crazy country. |

Many of them....look for the noraebangs with signs made from 1970's neon |

I've never seen a western-style karaoke bar in Gangnam (though it's possible I've missed one), and last time I went to Jane's Groove it had been shut down and it looked permanent.
There is karaoke in Itaewon at Manila Bar. Here are the directions from Seoulstyle.com:

Yep, Manila bar is good for American style.
Also, in my satelite city, a few of the larger local "sexy" bars also have karaoke machines. Lastly, the Korean "Live Hofs" will sometimes let you go up on stage to sing after the scheduled band/singer is finished. I don't think this is really common practice, rather they've let me and my buddies do it b/c it's amusing for the adjosshis to see drunk waygooks singing "Arirang" and "Let it be." |

Manila Bar will close for good in March.
Jane's Groove in Hongdae got rid of karaoke night a long time ago. |

Roofers in Itaewon has been claiming for months that it is going to start a program, but I've yet to hear anything definitive on that.
Could be a good business opportunity in Seoul for someone to start a place. |

Any bar called "7080" or "3040" or "standuh bar" is a Karaoke bar. You have to sing with sexily dressed ladies who became adjumma in 1978 though. Also it's kind of expensive and they make you buy 6 beers at once then slam 3 of them themselves.
Still, you can sing in front of the crowd of adjossi and adumma and it's normally good craic.
Top tip: get the hostess to show you a picture of her daughter. She's usually a pretty hot 20ish year old. |

It could be IF marketed right. Open karaoke bars in Korea are like American-style Chinese fastfood joints -- many have tried but none have succeeded. |
