the co-teach mentioned a notebook for me, but i said NO!! i don't want responsibility for that.... i got enough trouble of my own already!
also... it has to be something the kids can use over and over... like years to come, like games, materials...i'm just shot for ideas right now, lots going on in my otherwise harmonious life... so i thought i'd ask on here, perhaps i'll stumble upon a humble soul willing to dispense some wisdom on the matter... what would you have done Ramen or NYC?
please guys...this is NOT a joke...i seriously have to come up with some ideas, would like to offer some input and these guys have been nothing short of SUPER to me for these past 3 years... well 2 and a bit anyways.
Thanks again for looking and lending a helping hand.

Spend some money on some good supplies like crayons, pencils crayons, paper, tape, etc. Some English goes well with some ART projects.
Do not waste too much money on a computer! Consider getting a cheap desktop but limit it to a couple hundred thousand. If you want to spend the dosh I would consider getting a projector.
Next books -
Dictionaries - English/Korean, English English, One or two picture dictionaries.
Worksheet and game books. Depending on how your school is for photocopying I would get some game and and worksheet books in which you can photocopy and handout.
A Map or two. Some posters would be okay. But be careful not to waste too much money.
Key point is get what lasts. A computer would be nice but it will be junk in a couple of months or a year. Even same with some of the posters and books. |

my school got a bunch of puppets. They are amazing!!! the kids love them and it makes role lays a whole lot more fun for the kids. They are more willing to get in front of the class holding a puppet as opposed to being themselves. |

Books, cards for games, games in general, maybe some costumes, someone mentioned puppets and that sounds awesome, and I'd go for props for play acting scenes (grocer, post office, ticket agent, bakery, etc).
How about one of those mannequins that open up to show organs and stuff? You may be able to find on on a science website. You could label each part and teach more detailed body parts. I'll post more if I can think of any. I'd be like a fat kid in an ice cream shop if given that opportunity! |

'Guess Who' is the best English speaking game I think, we bought a bunch of sets for our last summer camp. I will use them again in January |

i actually think the puppet idea is brilliant!! thanks for sharing. i'll definitely get the guys to look into that...where to buy them is probably another challenge.
i agree on the pc idea...perhaps a good desktop/notebook. something reliable. i'm not Tech savvy, so, perhaps one of those Dell/Asus/Hp goodies.
the school has lots of crayons, colouring pencils, and paper goods. We also have some of the latest projector stuff...one projector i haven;t even thought possible...it shoots a perfect pic from an angle...unbelievable!!! who thinks of these things?!? we've got a tv in the one room almost my height and i'm 6ft 2....!!! i'll post a pic if you don't believe me...rear projection thing.
games sound great as well... i particularly love the idea of dvd's also... i may watch them myself..hehe.
Soooo many people to thanks and so little time... thanks all for such great input. Really appreciate it. will go to the drawing board and see how we can squeeze that 4 mill.

Document camera (connect to your bigscreen or projector. So your kids can see the paper you're writing on. It's basically a new kind of overhead transparency. Minus the markers, annoying heat and big bulky mirrors.
I'd get an HD Flip Camcorder. (Small USB camcorder) for recording roleplays so the kids can watch them later.
Maybe design a "listening center" Tape/CD/MP3 players with multitap headphones so 5 or 6 kids can sit together and do listening activities.
Small whiteboards and markers for everyone.
A Laminating machine.
One of those paper slicing guillotines.
Books, Books and more books.
Time for Kids Subscription. |

Don't all class rooms have those? in my school they do and its not particularly decked out compared to others.
Honestly though don't just spend the money because you have only spend what you need. The problem with government workers is they think they have spend the entire budget they get on something and just waste it. There is also an entire private secotor industry devoted to ripping off the education deptartment. Ask your co teachers how much a the kids desks costs, did you really need that new flat screen tv, if your school bought the materials boxes for the current English text books they cost something like 5mil per grade (this was the price 10 years ago or whenever they came out) for what is basically just a bunch of mostly useless flash cards. |
